The meeting, which was called by Senator Jack Schaffer, featured Director of Public Health William Kempiners, who engaged in a 3^-hour constructive dialog regarding the new regulations brought by the Nursing Home Reform act. More than 60 nursing home officials and interested citizens attended a meeting at McHenry County college to hear an explanation Of the Nursing Home Reform act, according to Sen. Jack Schaffer, R-Cary. State Public Health Director William Kempiners attended the session, arranged by Schaffer, to discuss his department's regulations implementing the new law. "It was a good session," the 33rd district senator said. "As the state's top public health official, Director Kempiners had the opportunity to detail how the new regulations are to be implemented. At the same time, nursing home ad ministrators were able to acquaint him with their concerns and problems in adapting to the revisions." Much of the discussion centered on meeting the regulations timetable for training nursing aides, Sen. Schaffer reported. Kem piners told the group they could either develop in-house training programs or enroll employees in junior college courses designed to advance the knowledge of nursing aides. Good-faith efforts to comply with the mandates of the law would be taken into account when determining whether deadlines are being met, the public health chief said. The administrators were also concerned with another section of the new act covering reimbursement for the cost of implementing new rules and regulations. Kempiners pointed out the statues provide for reim bursement of costs to nur sing homes. S c h a f f e r , S e n a t e Republican spokesman on public health issues, said the four-hour meeting helped clear the air for the nursing home industry officials apprehensive about their ability to comply with the reforms. This is a good act which is intended to improve care for the disabled, and I am hopeful reason will prevail in its im plementation," he stated. Hold Job Market Seminars George R. A seminar on "Career Development" will be of fered in three sessions Saturday, Oct. 4, 11 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the college, room 239. One aspect of the series is to help students identify interests, values, strengths, and needs through the use of inventories and to explore possible careers to meet them. Other points to be covered in the seminar are building self-confidence, writing effective functional resumes, practicing in terview situations, building a network of career leads. "Communication Styles" will be held Oct. 25, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Often the difference between the talking and listening styles of people causes messages to become tangled and family and-or co-workers to become hostile. Also on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Kleon will teach "Time Success Training", a way to build dynamic new time habits so that one can get more done in less time, focus on things that are important, and have more fun-time. This is a seminar everyone can use, especially those who have jobs that entail many dif ferent tasks. Kleon will help participants identify how their time is being spent, decide how they want their time to be spent, and design a plan for managing time. Both Oct. 25 seminars will be in room 241 at McHenry C o u n t y c o l l e g e . Registration can be made in person at McHenry County college, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Supt. R. J.
