Wonder Lake Anne Sowers 653-9549 Local Youth Tops In State Jeff Gealow, McHenry, was awarded "Top Student of year" in Illinois from the 1979 Conservation Snowmobile Certification class. Jeff was selected from two sessions consisting of 65 students taught by certified instructors from the Lakers Snowmobile club, Gene Sickles, Hugh Glaves and Joan Frenssen to compete for this honor. Jeff won the further competition with high honors giving him the "Student of Year" award. Jeff and his family at tended the annual Illinois Snowmobile Convention at the Holiday Inn in Mun- delein, Sunday, Nov. 16. Also proudly attending because of Jeff's accomplishment were his three instructors. He received a two-piece snowmobile suit and helmet as a prize for his feat. This year's Lakers Cer tification class was held at the Wonder Lake Inn on Oct. 25, with Gene Sickles, Hugh Glaves, and Joan Frenssen again instructing. Guest speakers were Sgt. George Meyers of the Sheriff's Dept.; Lt. Clarence Hummel of the Wonder Lake Fire Dept., giving a talk on paramedics; Paul Schell, and Bob Hermes, the Lakers deputies with the McHenry County Sheriff's Patrol. The Lakers are grateful to these fine people who donated their time to make the class a success. LEGION AUXILIARY The November meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was recently held in the post home. President Lorraine Fedejelem presided over the meeting. Chaplain Vickie Gleason gave the opening prayer, after which the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble were recited by the membership. Children and Youth chairman, Doris Jeffery announced that the theme for this year is "Set A Course For The Future". She also explained the Children and Youth program. Nancy Benedict, Foreign Relations chairman, an nounced that Thailand will be the country the auxiliary will provide help this year. Donations were made to Children and Youth, Foreign Relations, Pilot Dog program, and hospitalized AWARDS CEREMONY Thursday, Oct. 13, an Awards ceremony was held at Woodstock high school. Eight Wonder Lake boys received their numerals, completing their first step on the way to receiving their letter. Roger Abernathy, Dean Albrecht, George Birdsel, Roger Gonzalez, Jeff Hoff mann, Dave Mullens, Mike Nykaza, and John Raber were among the freshmen football team members who were honored. The team ended the season with an 8-1 record. TEAM REALLY SCORES Sandi (Castings, a senior at Marian Central, is to be congratulated, as are all the girls on the volleyball team for their outstanding play at the Invitational Tournament held at rock Valley college in Rockford, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14 and 15. They met and defeated all opponents to bring home the First Place trophy. Sandi is captain of the team and has been voted All Conference along with her teammate Patti Guerin. Wonder Lake can be ex tremely proud of these girls and their coach, Mary Stoner. GRADUATE Russ Carr, Jr., spent a weekend at home in Wonder Lake with his family after graduating Oct. 31 from Recruit Training in San Diego, Calif. Russ is now in Millington, Tenn., where he will be starting classes on Nov. 28. He will be home on a 10-day leave during the Christmas holiday. Illinois Director of Revenue J. Thomas Johnson has reminded senior and disabled citizens that ap plications for Circuit Breaker benefits for the 1979 claim year are due by Dec. 31. Circuit Breaker tax rebates are available to Illinois citizens with annual household incomes under $10,000 who are 65 years of age or older or who are permanently disabled, Johnson said. He noted that applications for rebates of taxes paid in 1979 must be postmarked by the legal deadline of Dec. 31 in order for the state Revenue department to be able to process them. Under the prograrq, property tax relief grants of ACCOUNTING AND TAX SERVICES up to $650 and additional grants of between $50 and $100 are available to qualified citizens, Johnson said. An applicant does not need to own his or her own home to qualify for a grant, he added. Persons who rent their residence or who live in nursing homes may qualify for one or both of these grants, Johnson said According to the state revenue director, 350,986 Application forms (IL- 1363) are available from any Illinois Department of Revenue office, the Illinois Department on Aging, the Lt.
