Mr. Beard was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist church. ENJOY CARIBBEAN CRUISE "It is an experience everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy". That was the opinion of Rich and Tina Gorski on their recent week-long cruise in the Caribbean. With four other couples from the area, they enjoyed the beauty (and squalor) of Nassau, San Juan and St. Thomas. On St. Thomas, they visited the National Un derwater park, where Tina learned to scuba drive, thoroughly enjoying the crystal clear and very warm water and the beauty of the coral reef and marine creatures. Rich enjoyed the snorkeling and both received certificates for their ac complishments. Rather than take con ducted tours, the group took their own walking tours, which brought them cloaer to the people and the activities of the community. There was no lack of entertainment abroad the cruise ship and the food was delicious (and so much!) HAPPY NEW YEAR The year i960 has been good to us and we hope that it has been good to you. We have enjoyed being with you this past year and do hope you will all enjoy the new year, 1961, coming up. There will always . be trials and tribulations but if we always look ahead and think of tomorrow we can usually surmount any of those problems with the thought that it will be bettef tomorrow. God Bless you all. BIRTHDAYS A happy birthday goes to Robert Howe, Sr. on Jan. 7, and on the eighth of January we find Gene Eppers, and Alice Peet adding another candle to their cake. On Jan. 10 we want to add our wishes So r the Gorski twins, Margaret and Phillips, who •Many Happy Returns In keeping with the spirit of giving, we're happy to announce that during the year of 1980 we paid out over SI2,500.000.00 in interest to our savers.. If youre thinking that's a lot of money.. .you're right. And the reason we can deliver such a healthy return is that we pay our depositors the highest interest rates a savings and loan is allowed to pay by law. Another reason is that we're a Mutual Association which means there are no stockholders to pay. Our net income during each year is distributed to our savers in the form of interest, which all adds up to more money for you. The funds remaining after operating expenses and savers have been paid goes into building up our already strong reserves, which helps us to serve you better. In addition, every dollar you deposit with us is protected up to $100,000 by an agency of the federal government. Best of all- this money is distributed to residents of the McHenry county area, which in turn helps us keep a sturdy economic flow of money within our own community. So if you've been looking for a good place to invest your money, save where your friends do, save with us. We're^the place where many happy returns happen all year round. m 7 cotWTs Marengo Federal & lo.m asmK'idl ion • MARENGO: 200 E. Grant Highway 815/568-7258 • McHENRY: 4400 W. During- a recent conversation with Sally Joosten, Wildlife Division of McHenry county, a good idea was discussed to, if possible, place the discarded Christmas tree along the fence, in the yard, etc...as a refuge for the winter birds, pheasants, small animals. Evergreens offer more protection than other trees which, at this time of year are bare. They can roost, nestle, snuggle in the tree for added warmth and protection from the wind, snow and cold. And, if you wish, decorate the branches with suet, bread, corn and apples. In doing this, you help make the winter season more comfortable for our little "friends,\ They need us...and we need them.
