Mrs. Bisiewicz is chairperson of "Dinner for Eight", a special-interest mini-group with the Town and Country Newcomers club. A service and social club, the Newcomers group has undertaken several successful fund- raising events, benefitting local civic groups, including FISH, a local fire deportment and two area rescue squads. Slate Auxiliary Meeting The Widows and Widowers group of Parents Without Partners Chapter No 189 will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28. in a member's home in Car- pentersville. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. and coffee and dessert will be served. This group is open to all widows and widowers who are members of P.W P and meets each month to discuss problems, concerns and interests unique to their single situation. Periodically a social event is planned in place of the meeting. Members of P.W.P. are always welcome to join in W W. activities whether or not they are widowed. Schaefer. 3814 W John street. McHenry. Over 150- friends and relatives attended the Open House from 2 to 5 p.m., in­ cluding many of his former customers. One special guest was the celebrant's brother-in-law. Jim Maher. whom he had not seen for 17 years Mr Schaefer was born in JANUARY 21 Whispering Oaks Woman's club-Book Review. Maple avenue, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jane, to Jeff E. "Chet" Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Myers of Yorkville, III. The future bride and groom met at Illinois State university where both will graduate in May; she with a Business Education degree and he, an Accounting degree. The couple will be married at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic church, McHenry in August, 1981. PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Chicago in 1896 He opened his first grocery and market at 604 W 3lst street. Chicago, at the age of 22. In 1918. he married Marie Maher and they moved to McHenry in 1922. * He established Schaefer's Grocery & Market on Main street. McHenry in 1923. and is shown standing on the steps of that building in the photograph above. Around 1930, Mr Schaefer moved in the building a few doors away, which had been vacated by Althoff's Hard ware, and remained in business there until 1968 when he retired After the death of his first wife in 1963, he married IxHiise Molter in 1964 She passed away in 1980. Mr Schaefer is the father of five children. Evelyn Albright. I-orraine Gausden. Donald. Eugene and Clarice iToots' Ficken. who died in 1965 He is also the grand father of twelve children two deceased, and has ten great grandchildren 1
