Carey Electric was organized in 1923. It was jointly owned by James E. Carey, Twin Lakes. Wisconsin, Walter E. Carey, and the late James E. Doherty, both of McHenry. The latter two operated the in­ fant concern. The original site was the M.M. Neisen building on Green St., which was formerly known as the McHenry Bakery, and is now Barb's Hallmark Shop. It was in 1927 that Walter E. Carey purchased from James E. Carey and James E. Doherty their interests and became sole proprietor. Later that year, a new building was erected, which houses Carey Appliance, Inc., McGee's Clothing Store. Huppy and Leo's Grocery Store, and the former Palace Recreation Todoy, after fifty-eight years oil but the Palace Recreation are still in operation. From this location, he operated an electric shop and an appliance store until 1958 In that year, the facilities on Green Street became too small, therefore, it was divided in two separate businesses. A new 8000 sq. ft building went up at 3309 Waukegan Rood, known a! Carey Electric Contracting Inc.. managed by Richard (Dick) Carey. The business on Green St. then became known as Carey Appliance, Inc. Mr. Carey retired in 1963. At that time two employees. Don Weingart of McHenry and George Erber, Jr. of Wood stock, took over the appliance business. After 13 more years George Erber Jr. sold his in terest to Bob Smith 8 Pete Kasper. Since that time. Carey Ap pliance. Inc. and McGee s Clothing Store acquired the Palace Recreation as they expanded for more display area. Over the years. Carey Ap pliance. Inc. has broadened their merchandise selection to include not only General Elec trie, but Amona, Crown. Kite hen-Aid. Litton, Maytag Monarch. Roper Speed Queen. Westinghouse Zenith and Corning. the bride of Brian A. Lund of McHenry in the garden setting at the home of the groom's parents. Sept. 20-In a lovely ceremony performed at the United Methodist church in Libertyville, Betty Willis of Gurnee was united in marriage with Marty Conway of McHenry. Sept. 27-Reverend Father Henry Porten, an uncle of the bride, conducted the guitar wedding uniting Bari R. Joyce and Michael A. McHale in marriage in St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg. Cynthia Lee Miller of Juda, Wis., became Theme Night Draws Crowd Of 2,000 One of the largest crowds to assemble for Fiesta week events gathered to the Pearl street park Friday evening. Although clouds hovered over the hnnd shell, they held back showers until after costumed children had been judged, dancers had made an exciting presentation, a karate demonstration had been given, and a varied program on stage enjoyed. The huge crowd also indulged to a variety of international foods on the grounds. Only the hapless square dancers had their evening's program halted when the rains came.
