In his junior year at Baker University in Kansas, Steve Mai, a 1977 graudate of McHenry high school, was named to the National N.A.I.A. AU-American baseball team. During the past year, Mai batted .367 with 40 hits in 108 at bats. He was voted Most Valuable Junior on the Baker team and stole 25 bases in 25 at­ tempts during the 27 games in which he played. His .93 stolen bases per game was good for fourth in the nation. The American Legion hardball team is suddenly proving that it will be solid contender for the Legion or Connie Made title this year. After squeeking by the Crystal Lake Legion, 2-1 the locals stood with a 3-0 Legion record and a 2-3 Connie Mark mark. The local American Legion hardballers started the month out by beating Algonquin, 18-1 as Mark Vogt went 3 for 5 and 3 RBIs as center fielder Gregg McPherron led the hitting parade for the month, ending 13 for 35 for a .371 mark. The locals also ended the month fay beating Crystal Lake, 5-2 and thus claiming the first place honors in the con­ ference. In 16", mens softball at the VFW the Foxhole Tap team, led by league leading hitter Tom Spasojevich (.647), ended the month with an undefeated 104 record.
