In football, Johnsburg had a 2-3 month, starting out against Harvard with a 16-0 loss in their homecoming game. The Skyhawks caught fire (like their homecoming floats) the following week, beating Bekrit Catholic, 14-7 while gaining 203 yards on the ground. They lost a 12-6 overtime game to North Boone on missed chances, then beat South Bekrit, 33-6 as Rick Neiss and boug Wickman each scored two touchdowns. Salem Central beat Johnsburg in the rain 27-6 at month's end as Scott Valentin couldn't pass in the sloppy, cold weather. Despite another 87-yard kick return touchdown by Dave D'Angelo, McHenry lost in Woodstock, 35-21 to start off October. The Warriors finished the month with a 35-13 homecoming loss to a strong Cary-Grove team, before beating Dundee, 45-0 as Dave D'Angelo scored three touchdowns. A heart­ breaking loss to. Crystal Lake Central, 3-0, was in the making as McHenry was intercepted in the late seconds in the endzone, but they ended the month on an upswing, beating Jacobs 19-6 as Rob Kalck scored on a 36- yard run and a 23-yard pass. D'Angelo scored on a 60-yard run. Tonee Weyland broke another swim record for McHenry in October, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in 2:22.3 to break her old record by .4 seconds. NOVEMBER The Warrior gridders started November by ending their season with a 20-13 win over Crown. Dave D'Angelo, who received the Most Valuable Player award for the Warriors caught a 49- yard pass with 3:10 remaining to win the game. D'Angelo, Kieth Belzer, Rob Kalck and Andy PAGE 31 - PLAINDE ALER - Saunders gathered All- Conference honors from Fox Valley coaches as the Warriors ended up 3-4 in the conference and 5-4 on the year, thus accomplishing a second preseason goal...to have a winning season. Johnsburg was 2-4 in the Shark and 3-6 overall as they lost to Marengo, 60-14 in the season finale. The 3-6 mark gave Johnsburg its best season to date and they placed three players on the Shark All-Conference team: Ride Neiss, Scott Valentin and Pete Barroso. In cross country, Marian continued to roll, finishing third in the Woodstock Sectional, but in the State meet in Peoria, Mike Eiaele finished second in the state at 14:48.5, the third best time in Class A history. The Hurricanes didn't fair as well as a team, taking Uth place in the state. In girls volleyball, McHenry ended the aeason, M in the Fox Valley aa Pam West was named to the All- conference team. *n»ey could not get past the Districts, FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 1161 however , losing to Betvidere, 15-3, 16-14. Johnsburg faired better than McHenry as their spikers beat Walther Lutheran, 16-14, 15-6 for the district crown in Johnsburg. The were eliminated in the Chicago sectional, losing to St. Barbara, 15-6, 15-6 as coach Carol Kanetzke and all conference star Inge Dschida had the flu. Sue Dehn was also selected to the Shark All-Conference team* Marian Central advanced even further than Johnsburg by beating Huntley in the Districts, 15-5, 15-7, only to win the Hampshire sectional by handing Rosary a 15-10, 15-5 defeat in the cham­ pionship games. Paddy Guerin was phenomenal with IS points in the Sec­ tionals.? « - - To no one's surprise.
