Walz Every week this column reviews the merits or demerits of a network series, minisenes, movie or special. More importantly though, we'd like you, the viewer, to get involved with the col umn by sending in your opinion about a certain show so we can register your tele-pulse. We'll pass on some of the more in teresting comments to the network honchos in New York. FLAMINGO ROAD The original two-hour pilot, which aired last year, did well enough in the ratings to spawn a weekly version of this pictur esque saga of several wheeling and dealing families in Truro, Florida. NBC had hoped that this Southern soap-opera, laced together by the makers of 'Dallas,' Lorimar Productions, would make an impact on their overall prime-time outlook, but as of this writing, 'Flamingo Road' is showing signs of putting the net work into deep trouble. 'Flamingo Road' boasts an all-star cast, a pre requisite for a series of this magnitude, but some of the characters are get ting lost in the scheme of things, which is the fault of the show's scriptwriters, while others are just miscast For example, Mark Harmon, who portrays Fielding Cartyle, Truro's good-looking Deputy- turned-politician, appears as if he were sleepwalking through some of the episodes Mark will never win an Emmy for his abilities, but he did put more ef fort into his '240 Robert' series a year ago. Then there's Cristina Raines, a veteran actress who has received glowing reviews in the past. In 'Flamingo Road' she portrays Lane Ballou, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who falls in love with Fielding, threatening his marriage and political ambitions. Cristina appears to be totally ambivalent about her character. There's )ust no feeling there. The only people earning their weekly stipehd are Morgan Fairchild and the cameramen who make the show look like a picture postcard Morgan has always had star quality in my opinion. In 'Flamingo Road' she plays Constance Weldon, the rich, spoiled wife of Mark Harmon. Her devotion to Fielding is such that she'll do anything to keep him in power and as usual, Morgan plays her role to the hilt. Can 'Flamingo Road' be saved? Maybe. With 'Hart to Hart' (ABC) and a 'Tuesday Movie' (CBS) to compete with, 'Flamingo Road' will have to be more explosive, which may mean paring down some of the show's little side plots. A remedy for the lethargic acting may come in a terse net work reprimand to those so-called actors who have made, for what I've been told, a very tense set-due to their off-camera shenanigans Send your comments to Tele-Pulse, do TV Compulog, P.O.
