New Goals For fYour P^ ActOrS StudiO 1 Officer Jim Fitzgerald The McHenry Actors studio, emerging with new ideas, is a non-profit organization started in 1976 for the purpose of promoting communication through the dramatic arts media. It strives to help the com­ munity generally, and the members especially, to develop those skiiis necessary to convey their feelings and values to each other. The means employed are mainly study, and a workshop environment in which membehs share ideas and help each other gain experience. As individuals, or as a group, they may produce, promote, or sup­ port performances which convey an uplifting message. The group also is willing to serve as an in­ formation center for the performing artists in the area, to promote cooperation of the various groups and endeavors In January, 1978. a regular weekly drama class for young students was started. Children from the neigh­ borhood stopped in after school to learn the fun­ damentals of acting, as well as hear about the other aspects of production and appreciation Since then, some of the students have advanced considerably in capabilities. And some adults have ex­ pressed interest in taking theater seriously. So this January a new continuing workshop was initiated, and notices put in the paper. The response was very en­ couraging. The group meets in the evening for three hours of discussion, reading and acting exercise. As there are new people every session, time is also taken to get acquainted. When the workshop becomes more settled, lectures and other special activities will , probably be scheduled. By now there are so many children interested and already participating that it has become necessary to start a special children's workshop after school again. The youngsters' interests tend to be more active than those of the older members.
