PAGE 13 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. APRIL 10.1961 ...Moving Mountains At Johnsburg Students enrolled in the Heavy Equipment course at Johnsburg high school also are instructed in surveying as an integral part of the class. The surveyor will determine when exactly sixinches of soil has been removed from the baseball diamonds behind the school. ,When the weather permits, the class moves outside for a little practical application of the skills learned in the classroom. Story & Photos By Anthony Oliver One of the newest pieces of machinery acquired by the Johnsburg school district is the road grader shown above. The engine was overhauled, the machine put in operating condtition and painted by the students in the diesel maintenance phase of^the two-year course. The grader is making the excavation of the baseball diamonds a good deal easier than the project would have been without it. Below, one of the students operates the tractor and backhoe, carving out the corners of the diamond -- which would be more dif ficult with either the grader or the bulldozer. After the excavation is completed the students will fill and finish the jjiamond.
