t Saluted By Klwanls Deaths 'I \ RALPH BERENT. JR. Ralph M. Berent, Jr., 27, of Chicago, formerly of McHenry, died suddenly Tuesday, April 14, in Chicago. He was bom Feb. 27, 1954, in San Antonio, Tex., to Ralph and Ellen Berent. Survivors are his mother Ellen Berent of McHenry; three sisters, Katherine, Krisfinr> and Barbara Berent, all of McHenry; three brothers, Thomas of Wauconda, Michael of California and Lawrence at home. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Florence (Neal). Visitation was scheduled for Thursday, 7 p.m., at the Drake funeral home, Chicago. Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m. and burial will be at St. Adelbert cemetery. CHESTER VANDY Chester J. Vandy, 71, 1007 Oeffling drive, McHenry, died Tuesday morning, April 14, at McHenry hospital. He was born Nov. 20, 1909, in Chicago, to Peter and Agnes Kusnierz. Mr Vandy was a four-year resident of the area, for­ merly of Arlington Heights. A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg and St. James Catholic church, Arlington Heights, he had been a real estate broker 25 years, owning and operating his own company in Arlington Heights. He was a Knights of Columbus third and fourth degree member of the St. James church council. Survivors include his wife Berntce (Wilson) Whom ne married Oct. 15, 19^8, in Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Judy) Rolfs, Delavan, Wis. and Joy Vandy, Elk Grove Village; a son James, Arlington Heights; five grandchildren and a brother Eugene, Winchester, 111. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Peter Funeral services were held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., in the George R Justen & Son funeral home with Father Lutz officiating. Twin Lakes, Wis., died Tuesday morning, April 14, following a long illness. He was boi*n May 22, 1912, near Twin Lakes, the son of the late John and Louise Frank Ehlert. He was married to Bernice Peterson Jan 11, 1935. at Woodstock, 111. Mr. Ehlert had been a farmer many years, retiring in 1975 In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters. Mrs. James (Pat) Minnis. Wilmot, Wis. and Mrs. ^Edward (Donna) Holmstrom, Twin Lakes, Wis.; and four grand­ children. Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Pacey, Twin Lakes, Wis., Mrs. Edith Skidmore,. Ringwood, 111., Mrs. Tony (Mildred) Senkerick, Johnsburg, 111. and Mabel Ehlert, Twin I^akes; and two brothers, Dean, Kenosha, Wis. and Lyle, Wilmot, Wis. He was preceded in death by a sister Hazel Bowman and three brothers, Duane. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD At the March 30 meeting of the McHenry Kiwanis club, two McHenry high school seniors were saluted for outstanding performances during this school year.. The first of the two students recognized bv the Kiwanis club was Brian Wrona, a senior at McHenry high school East campus. Brian, a member of Jthe McHenry - high school wrestling squad for four years, was recently named Fox Valley conference wrestling champion at 119 lbs. Earlier in the season he had also been named champion in the Rockford- Boylan invitational tour­ nament. also in the 9 lb. weight class In addition to this, Brian is an honor roll student at East campus Also saluted at the same time was West campus senior, Stephanie Allen Stephanie was recently selected as a 1980-81 National Merit Scholarship finalist. Stephanie is also an honor roll student and has been very active in the music program of McHenry high school during her four vears of attendance.
