GOD BLESS Safety Hints a a o D o o o a c a B B i o \ By Jim Edgar Secretary of State Although we experienced a relatively mild winter of driving in Illinois, it still is time to prepare your vehicle for the hot summer ahead. Your car, recreational vehicle or truck should be checked thoroughly to guarantee good per formance. Winter driving is hard on vehicles, and there are a number of things you or your service attendant should inspect, if you haven't done so already. 1. Battery: Look for corrosion on cables and terminals, a common cause of starting trouble. If your battery uses water, check the level and add distilled water as needed. When working near a battery, be sure there is no open flame, and do not smoke. Batteries emit explosive hydrogen gas. 2. Fluids: Check engine oil, transmission oil, power steering fluid and coolant. It is recommended that you keep your radiator full of a mixture of 50 percent an tifreeze and 50 percent water for warm weather driving to prevent overheating. Never remove the radiator pressure cap when the engine is hot. 3. Drive belts and hoses: Frayed or worn belts should be replaced. Inspect all hoses for leaks, softness, cracks or blisters and replace if necessary. Tighten hose clamps. A bad hose easily can leave you stranded. (A copy of the Rules of the Road will be sent upon request. Write to Jim Edgar, Secretary of State, Springfield, 111. 62756.) NoCrtae Liechtenstein has no natural resources, yet its people's in come is among the highest in the world, reports National Ge ographic. And unemployment, inflation, crime, and pollution are virtually unknown in this tiny country in the heart of the Alps.
