The Plaindealer believes that the change to daylight saving during the summer would be a benefit to the city of McHenry, owing to the fact that hun­ dreds of Chicago people are summer residents here and go back and forth to the city every day. The McHenry high school band went to St. Charles to enter the annual band competition for this district, where they came in fourth place in Class C. Those from McHenry who heard the bands were shocked at the verdict of the judges for the splendid performance of the McHenry band entitled them tb something better than fourth place in the opinion of the local people, as well as many other listeners at the contest. With the stirring of varied mories and their thoughts everting to the days of 20 rs ago, the members of the Royal Neighbors of America, celebrated their twentieth birthday at Legion hall. About 50 members of the order were present to enjoy the meeting and the charter members of the camp were guests of honor. He is Robert Thompson, who completed 36 years with McHenry Lumber company on April 4 of this year He was guest of honor at a dinner at the Country club at which time he was presented with a beautiful watch.' Residents of Main street will miss seeing him on his daily trips to work, which he has made from the same residence for so many years. However, they may expect an even greater enjoyment to be derived from Mr. Thomp­ son's highly successful hobby, gardening The thirteenth village was welcomed to McHenry county when the majority of voters who went to the polls approved incorporation of Sunnysde Estates. It is the fourth village incorporated locally in the past few years. of TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files April 14, 1971) At a recent news con­ ference, Sheriff Art Tyrrell announced that traffic deaths have decreased for the period from Jan. 1 to April 1 as compared to recent years, with six in 1969, eight in 1970 and two in 1971 Tyrrell emphasized that the increase in his budget made more men available for closer supervision and closer communications. Following the executive session a special meeting of the McHenry County college board, an announcement was made that Dr. James R. Davis of Mount Carmel, 111., would be offered a contract for the position of president of McHenry County/cojiege. Village Clerk Slates Hours As your new village clerk, my hours will be 1:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays starting today. There will be changes in the clerk's hours starting next month. If you cannot make my hours, please call me on the clerk's phone, 385-2211, for a convenient time. If you cannot reach me on the phone on the day I have hours, and the weather is beautiful, I will be in the yard, so stop by. EASTER CARNIVAL The carnival was another success this year. There were plenty of eggs, games, refreshments, and children on hand. Fifteen contestants en­ tered in the Little Miss McCullom Lake contest and of course, they were all darling. The second runner- up was Tiffany Krumweide, the first runner-up, Julie Lawson and Nicole Curran is our new queen. Congratulations to you all. BOARD MEETING The first board meeting of the month was Tuesday, April 14, 8 p.m. at the beach house. There was a full -house on hand to see the new officials sworn in., President Monty yates made two trustee ap­ pointments. Lois P&renti will be in charge of Bleach and park; Carol Krumsee is our trustee in charga of finance. Also, the new village treasurer is Jotjn Boyle. Other appointments will be made at a later meeting. PICNIC Karen Parks invited all the Beach Gals and their children over for lunch Thursday, April 16, at her new home. The children enjoyed hot dogs, and moms feasted on delicious salads prepared by our host, Karen. It was a most enjoyable day for all. BIRTHDAYS Birthday wishes this week go to Barb Reiter, Todd I^asco and Ron Kloeckner on April 24; Joy Miller and Barb Miller, April 25; Irene Johnson, April 26; Peter Turner, April 27; and Linda Branham and Ron Reid, April 28.
