In fact, he says, he's really quite the opposite. "I enjoy helping people," says the 32-year-old star of NBC-TV's "CHiPs." "If a woman I'm in love with tells me she needs help, I'm there to give it any way I can. If a buddy of mine has a problem, he can always count on me to work through it with him. I especially enjoy helping kids. If I'm the one who can make it all a little easier for a kid, I do whatever r can. Kids look up to me and that's a special trust. I just know I have this obligation to use that trust for their benefit." Erik wouldn't comment on his widely publicized romance with Beverly Sassoon or his flings with other Hollywood beauties. But he did say, "If a woman's love for me is not contributing to her life, I'd rather not accept that love at all. I may benefit from our relationship, but if she isn't, the whole thing is doomed anyway. I will continue with a woman only if the relation ship is as constructive for her as it is for me." His seven- and-half-month marriage last year to Joyce Woods ap parently wasn't very constructive to anybody but the divorce lawyers. TV BACKSTAGE: Mention the Miller Brewing Company to sports fans and they will probably recall seeing Miller commercials on their favorite network telecasts. It is true that Miller is a major network television sponsor of Major League Baseball, NCAA College Football, the National Football League and National Basketball Association games. But within the past several years Miller also has entered into agreements with several governing bodies to sponsor, in whole or in part, four major U.S. National Amateur sports teams. Sponsored on an individual brand basis, they include. Miller High Life--the United States Boxing Team, including sponsorship of the Regional and National Amateur Boxing Championships. Lite--United .States Track and Field Team, including sponsorship of the National Outdoor Track and- Field Championships; and the U.S. Ski Team, including sponsorship of the Lite International World Cup. Lowenbrau--The U.S. Senior Cycling Team, including sponsorship of the Lowenbrau International Grand Prix cycling series. TV CLOSEUP: Cristina Raines, the sultry, raven-haired star of NBC's "Flamingo Road," isn't thrilled with the idea of marriage, but she's determined to become a mother- with or without a wedding ring. "Married or not, I'm going to have a child--or children," says the 27-year-old screen love object of co-stars John Beck and Mark Harmon. "Above anything else I want to have kids, because I enjoy them so and because I know I'd make a good parent. I would not dream of going through life without the ex perience of being a mother." £ristina's lack of interest in matrimony was evident at 18, when she and actor- songwriter Keith Carradine set up housekeeping together. The romance lasted longer than most Holly wood marriages--more than seven years. She said at the time: "I'm perfectly happy the way things are--not being married, just being together. That's enough for me."
