During a special service of reception within the regular worship service the new families were invited to come forward to receive a certificate of church membership from Pastor Roger Schneider. Following the service the new members stood in a receiving line at the door of the church to be greeted by the members of the congregation. A fellowship hour followed in the fellowship room of the church to allow the new members to become acquainted with the membership of the church. State Highways March Deaths: 100 The Superintendent of Illinois State police. Ronald J. Miller, announced the latest figures which indicate that during the month of March, 1981, 100 persons died from injuries sustained in traffic accidents on Illinois streets and high ways. State police. District II. which covers Lake. McHenry, DeKalb, Kane and DuPage counties reported 39 persons killed in these counties since Jan 1981 During the same period last year in these counties, 55 persons died A breakdown of the counties for statistics in March of 1981 shows Lake county had seven fatalities; McHenry county had two; DuPage county had one; Kane county had five and DeKalb had one. As a comparison for March of 1980, Lake county had 12 fatalities; McHenry county had one; DuPage county had six; Kane county had three and DeKalb county had none. Three hundred and seventy-six persons have been killed in the entire State in 1981 There were 342 persons killed during the same time period of 1980 showing an increase of 34 over 1980. Each agency was represented to various hearing panels of local citizens where they presented their programs and financial needs for the coming year Typical of these human service agencies is the Salvation Army. In McHenry county, a network of Salvation Army volun teers provides services to families and individuals in need When a child needs glasses which parents can't afford, the Army can help When a family is burned out of their home, the Salvation Army can provide short- term emergency shelter. When a family has no money for food, the Army provides groceries The Salvation Army offers services as varied as the more than 400 county residents who were assisted last year A Woodstock resident. who was seriously injured in an automobile accident, wasn't able to work for six months She found it impossible to make ends meet for her family of five on an irregular income. The Salvation Army assisted her with groceries and payment of her gas bill when the utility was about to be disconnected A Wonder Lake man needed special treatments at a Chicago hospital Friends and neighbors volunteered to help drive him to and from the hospital The Salvation Army provided funds for gasoline to ease the family's financial burden When a family was burned out of their Crystal I^ake home, the Salvation Army provided several nights' lodging, clothing and meals until the family found per manent housing Besides these services, the resources of the Salvation Army in Chicago are available to McHenry county residents Last year, two young county residents were referred to the Army's Booth Memorial hospital. Booth is the only com prehensive maternity hospital in the state for unwed mothers 10 to 30 • years old There, young women can deliver away from the stigma and em barrassment of a teenage pregnancy Last summer. the Salvation Army sent 24 children to its Camp Won derland in southern . Wisconsin The campers enjoyed 12 days of swim ming. crafts nature and Bible study Each year, the Army sends more than 200 suburban children to the camp at no cost to parents. These are a few of the lives the Salvation Army has touched in McHenry county. In 10 communities, the Salvation Army volunteer stands ready to help in dividuals and families in need. The member agencies of the United Way of McHenry County provide numerous services in many areas including health, welfare, character building and recreation Many of these services would have to be curtailed without financial assistance from the United Way of McHenry County I hope to find my countrv in the right; however, I will stand by her, right or wrong. -Stephen Decatur.
