Hold Cabin Rededication Ringwood News Doris Low 653-9262 Katy Christopher 385-8037 State Rep. Dick Klemm addresses crowd at the cabin rededication-p laq uing ceremony at the McHenry County Historical museum in Union. On the platform, from left to right, the Rev. Norman Mayer of St. John's Lutheran church in Union, who gave dedication talk; Mrs. Irene Borre of Richmond, a member of the society's Historic Sites committee; hidden by podium is Stasia Gannon, granddaughter of cabin builder, Luke Gannon; Shuji Kimura of Crystal Lake Historical society president; and Don Hildebrand of Union, treasurer of the Historical society. A large crowd made up of county, township and municipal officials, -"along with the general public turned out for the Luke Gannon Log cabin rededication ceremony in Union. Hosted by the McHenry County Historical society, those attending listened to opening patriotic songs sung by a Cary Grove high school quartet They were followed by Shuji Kimura. Crystal Lake president of the Historical society, who greeted the crowd and in­ troduced Miss Stasia Gannon, Woodstock, a granddaughter of the cabin's original builder in 1847, Luke Gannon Miss Gannon ex­ pressed appreciation to the society for its efforts in preserving this county's only remaining free standing log cabin and introduced other members of her family present for the rededication Kimura wen' on 'o acknowledge individuals lor their efforts in restoring the r n Irene Borre, Richmond, member of the Society's Historic Sites committee, presented Historic Plaque No. 4 to Stasia Gannon, the plaque, noting the historic nature of the cabin-will be placed on the log cabin outside the museum After noting the role that county, township and municipal officials have played in funding the efforts of the Historical society through donations and Federal Revenue Sharing donations, Don Hildebrand of Union , society treasurer. in­ troduced State Rep. Dick Klemm, who spoke briefly praising the efforts of the society in preserving county historv Congresswoman Lynn Martin sent greetings through her representative .Janell Lampi of Woodstock, and letters of support fro^ Governot Tim Th ;np. and State Treasurer Jerry Cosentino were read by Kimura I In closing, the Rev. Norman Meyer of St. John's Lutheran church of Union aptly captured the purpose of the dedication when he expressed the hope that this tiny cabin would serve as more than "an historical relic" to this county. He hoped it would "serve to inspire us and to remind us of the courageous spirit and of the plain hard work that created a great nation." He also noted that the pioneers' dreams were not so different from residents today and that where their work ended, those of this generation began The museum and cabin is now open to the public Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 1:30-4:30 Recent acquisitions of the Historical society include Greenwood township -•rds dating back to the s and a 19th century wooden pump from the Cedarvilie cemetery in Solon Mills. •Honor Mothers On Their Day The oldest and the youngest mother attending services last Sunday in the Ringwood United Methodist church were presented with a lovely geranium plant. Those receiving the floral gifts were Cheryl Gamen and Ruty Kadlec. The other ladies attending received small begonia plants upon leaving the service. The church school children sang during the service. which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. DOUBLE CELEBRATION Mother's day was also another important day for Mrs Edith Harrison of Ringwood as it was the birthday of her oldest granddaughter, Cynthia Hardesty of Chicago. Cynthia was born on Mother's day.
