To receive Chore service the person need only to call the Council office and Ms. Davis will evaluate the need and make arrangements for service. The Carrier Watch program instituted by Ms Davis in 1979 is a program in which a senior living alone can register with the Council office and they in turn notify the local post office that this person is alone. The post office then places a small "Carrier Watch" decal inside the mail box and the carrier then knows that if the mail is not taken from the box daily the senior might be in need of assistance He-she notifies the post office personnel, who calls Ms. Davis and she will then contact the senior, neigh bors. relatives or whoever the senior has listed on his registration. This program has been very effective in McHenry county and is now being used in surrounding areas The volunteer program enables people with spare time to assist seniors who need someone to talk to and visit with, shop, and provide small errands The Council News, published monthly and now going to nearly 7,500 seniors in the county, contains the Walk-In center menu, in formation of interest to seniors. articles, en tertainment and ads which help pay for its publication.
