Did your grandmother ewer make cough syrup out of rock candy?' When you were a wee one, had a cold and a cough, did your mother come into your room in the middle of the night with a cup of warm milk complete with a lump of butter to soothe yOur throat? No antibiotics in our day -- And the horse-drawn milk wagons with wooden wheels that used to awaken me at four o'clock in the morning -- - if it was a cold winter day, mother would run down stairs to take the bottles in or the cream would pop out of the top -- whole piilk had the cream on the top that was poured off for Swedish coffee You can tell, I've been enjoying your columns-- MR Memories. Sure I remember. In fact I remember those days better than yesterday. And - did your mother tie a wool sock around your neck when you had a sore throat? How about a sack of hot salt to ease an earache? Blowing smoke in an ear was another remedy A couple of drops of kerosene mixed with honey would stop a cough or make you forget you ever had one. Have had no experience with Swedish coffee. Irish coffee is made with a "stick" in it Met the Ray McMahons with Chuck and Mary Ann Pyles as • we entered McHenry County Club to feed our faces. Ray watched carefully to see that my hat didn't get mixed up < it was the only lid in the house.) The Sox won a thrilling 4-2 game. We should have gone to New York with them We lost Ben for a while before the game started He grew up a couple of blocks from the park. We aren't sure, but he may have been out looking over the old neighborhood There didn't seem to be a vacant seat in the park and nobody was in a hurry to leave after the victory Some were beered up and singing Some were just, singing. Can't tell you where we get tickets for those good seats Let's just say from an angel We had fun Remember when this was catchy? "Mother may I go out to swim"' Yes My darling daughter Hang your clothes on a hickory line but don't go near the water " Bill Bolger came to our table and presented us with a golf ball found on the, course Couldn't believe our eyes. It was labeled Cubs If you lost a ball. Herb, just step right up and identify it. It isn't as bat tered up as you might think when you see the name.
