Over 70 percent of the current peanut farmers do not own the land they farm They rent it and what a price they pay! Normal crop land rental is about $25 to $30 an acre But peanut allotment land brings $200 an acre and even more when it's irrigated. Who benefits from this form of governmental con­ trol? Not the farmer who sweats and works and prays. This farmer who rents land cannot complain about this feudal system because he loses his opportunity to farm the next year. Not the consumer who sees this cost in every jar of Skippy or every Baby Ruth bar. And especially not the govern­ ment who underwrites a program that is a form of slavery and totally opposed to a free market economy. But some do benefit.
