ANTHONY BALCHUNAS Newlyweds Honeymoon In Hawaiian Islands Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Robert Balchunas scheduled a wedding trip to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands following their May 30 wedding at St. Mary's Catholic church, Huntley. 111. The bride, the former Janet Elizabeth Mitchell, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Mitchell, 840 Country Club road, Crystal Lake. The parents of the groom are Mrs. Paul Hiller, 2102 N. Riverside drive, McHenry, and the late Robert Balchunas The bride was preceded down the aisle by her nephews and nieces, Eugene Prentice, Jennifer and Thomas Golbeck, and Susan Grant. Apricot carnations, white gladioli, white chrysan­ themums and baby's breath decorated the church and background music was played and sung by Carol Girvett of Crystal Lake, as Father Leo Ambre per­ formed the 11 a.m. ceremony. A bouquet was presented to the Blessed Mother at a statue belonging to the bride s mother, in a grotto designed by the bride's grandfather many years ago. The maid of honor was a sister of the bride. Kathleen Mitchell of Crystal Lake. Bridesmaids were Maureen Mitchell of Crystal Lake, the bride's sister; and the bride's cousin. Donna Liston of Woodstock. The best man was Mark Saladin of Woodstock. Groomsmen were Thomas Balchunas of McHenry, the groom's brother; and Tim Adams of McHenry. Ushers were brothers of the groom, Pat and Tom Hiller of McHenry. John Evans Inn, Crystal I-ake, was the setting for the reception Special guests were the bride's maternal grandfather, Eugene Zoia of Cary and the groom's maternal grandmother, Mrs Peter Warner of McHenry. The new Mr. and Mrs. Balchunas will be residing in DeKalb, 111 Food Demonstration Mouth-watering, taste- tempting recipes will be demonstrated at the 4-H Food Demonstration contest June 15. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Farm Bureau building, Woodstock and the public is invited to attend. Participants must select a recipe that corresponds to one of the 4-H projects the member is enrolled in. The winning demonstrator will compete in the state contest during the Illinois State Fair. The top demonstrator in the hor­ ticulture division, which includes preparing fruits and vegetables for table use, canning, freezing, and dehydration, will compete in the State Horticulture contest at the University of Illinois. Prices will be reduced to one-half at 1 p.m. Donations from the community may be dropped off at the church, or one can call the church "Office to make arrangements for pickups. ,* « - Bride Wore Mother's Own Dress And Pearls As she approached the altar of St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg, June 6, the former Terri Lee Kanter was wearing her mother's own wedding dress, which was made by her maternal grandmother 26 years ago. The gown is fashioned of lace and tulle, decorated with pearls. A wreath of silk roses and baby's breath, created by the bride, adorned her hair. Com­ pleting the picture was the pearl necklace her mother had worn on her wedding day . The bride, the daughter of Cecil and Flo Kanter, 1808 W Oakleaf, McHenry, ex­ changed promises of marriage with David Paul Vrasich, at a 1 p.m. ceremony officiated by Father Matt Rauen. Special music was provided by Mary Jo Stedman. The maid of honor was the sister of the bride, Mary Ferguson of Fox Lake. Bridesmaids were the bride's sister. Margie Kanter of McHenry; sisters of the groom. Jo Ann Vrasich of McHenry and Margie Krispin of Round ' Lake Beach: and a friend of the bride, Mary Ann O'DonneU of McHenry. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Pechous, 4005 N. Hillcrest place. Johnsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Low. 4904 Barnard Mill road. Ringwood. are the parents of the groom. The 3 p.m. liturgy was celebrated by Father Leo Bartel. in a setting of assorted summer flowers. Pioneer road, McHenry. The groom is the son of Mrs. Jeanne Watkins. 1705 North avenue, McHenry. The couple was united in marriage by the Reverend Herman Graef, and soloist, Kathy Graef, sang "Wed­ ding Song and "We've Only Just Begun". The bride wore a white organza taffeta gown, ac­ cented with reembroidered chantilly lace. The bodice featured a natural waist and Queen Anne neckline, decorated with seed pearls. The skirt flowed into a chapel length train, and was highlighted with a pleated overlay skirt. Her fintertip veil, echoing the chantilly lace treatment, was secured to a Juliet cap. Attendants were attired in blue floral print, floor length gowns with pleated skirts and a blouson top, accented with spaghetti straps. Groomsmen were the bride's brothers, Vernon and Glen Stade; the groom's brother, Steve Grabo; and Bill Bryniarski, all of McHenry. The groom's brother, Tom Watkins, also of McHenry, was the ring bearer. Ushers were Bob and John Doessel of McHenry, cousins of the groom. The mother of the bride chose a floor length peach dress, trimmed with gold sequins. A floor length, sea foam green polyester gown with a draped neckline was the choice of the groom's mother. Upon their return from a 10-day trip to California, touring San Francisco and Ivos Angeles, the couple will reside on James street in McHenry. The bride graduated from Johnsburg high school in 1979 and is a secretary for Stoffel and Reihansperger, Inc. The groom, a 1977 graduate of McHenry high school, is a part-time student at McHenry County college and also is employed as a tool and die maker for K & K Tool. Attendants were attired in tiered gowns of an apricot print, styled with a blouson bodice and spaghetti straps. A short bolero jacket complimented the ensemble. The flower girls were Malinda and Megan Michels, and Amy Smith, nieces of the bride. They wore short white pique pinafores ac­ cented with peach monogramming and carried white baskets of petals. The duties of best man were handled by Tom Schoyer, a friend of the groom. Groomsmen were the bride's brother, Dave Smith; and friends of the bride and groom, Eddie Hetterman.
