Wally's Bike Haven and McHenry Savings and Loan share the league lead with a 5-0 record. McHenry Favorite Sports pulled off the triple play in a 22-3 romp over Tami's Furniture. With two runners on and none out in the second, pitcher Kim Powers caught a line drive. She fired to second baseman Jenny Meyers for a force out there and the relay to Julie Erickson at first was in time. x S and L won its fifth straight game, whipping Ed's Rental 15-7. Six-run salvos in the third and fourth innings propelled S and L to„ the win. Hits by Kim Belzer, Cindy Shaver and Holly Bran- denburger started the first rally in the third. Cindy Marinangel followed with a grand slam to center to make it 6-1. Julie Wiedeman and Jenny Beam also had key hits in the inning Ed's rallied in the fourth when Chris Van Dinther and Candi Rhode sandwiched doubles around a single by Jenny Acked Kim Wallace. Denise Dombroski and Pam Gregario had the big base hits in a fifth-inning out­ burst But Beam. Amy Stolle. Terry O'Brien and Mary Etheridge fueled S and L's fourth-inning rally to put the game out of reach Bike Haven won its fourth and fifth straight games by defeating McHenry Rec and Tami's Furniture. Sharp defensive play by Betsy Johnson and Kelly Bolger backed the pitching of Kasondra Weiler as Wally's nipped McHenry Rec 12-11. The McHenry residents have sent three of their children t<f€hampaign- Urbana and all participated in sports. Tom Hutchinson was a football player and wrestler at McHenry High But he was a javelin thrower for the Ulini track team, earning two letters. He recorded the sixth-best throw in school history, a toss of 199'7". Tom's collegiate athletic career has ended and he is enrolled in graduate school. He received a bachelor's degree TOM IIUTCIIINSON in architecture last December. Jerry Hutchinson was a three-sport participant at McHenry. graduating in 1978. He played in the school's Blue and Orange spring football scrimmage recently. He is a punter for the Ulini Jerry was recently called upon to demonstrate punting techniques at a clinic held at U of I. The clinic was at­ tended by state high school coaches. He will enter his junior year this fall and is majoring in graphic design. He is a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. I>ast but not least is Sue, a 1980 McHenry grad. She was voted female Athlete of the Year in high school. Sue earned her first varsity letter this spring and was the Ulini's fourth singles JERRY HUTCHINSON player in tennis. She played tennis and basketball and was on the track team in high school She just completed her freshman year at U of I and is majoring in physical education TWO EARN LETTERS Two Carthage College students from the area earned letters in track this spring Freshman Debbie Grenier. daughter of Mr. and Mrs Fred Grenier. 1510 Morgan Terrace. McHenry; and Ixjri Lynn Vogt. the sophomore daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Vogt. 3109 E Lake Shore Drive. Wonder Lake Carthage is a liberal arts college located on the shores of Lake Michigan in Kenosha. Wis WALSH' I Hear Marian Plans Sports Camps Marian Central High will host basketball and tennis camps this summer at the school. 1001 McHenry Ave., Woodstock. The basketball camp will be held June 15. 17,19, 22, 24 and 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. The camp will be conducted by head basketball coach Hans Rokus, assistant coach Kerry Muldowney and girls' coach Mary Stoner. The clinic is for boys and girls in grades four through eight. Instructors will cover basic basketball skills with emphasis on shooting, ball handling, rebounding and team play. Along with in­ structions, players will participate in skill contests such as free throw com­ petition, HORSE and other games. The tennis camp will be held on the same days from 3 to 5 p.m. Kids in grades four to eight are eligible. Rokus and Muldowney will be the instructors. Forehand, backhand, serve and net play will be covered in the camp. Skill contests and matches will also be played. The camp fee includes a T- shirt and certificate of participation. For more information, call Rokus at Marian. Tennis Meet Set Registration is now being held for the third annual Marian Central open tennis tournament. The tourney will be held at the school June 20 and 21 with com­ petition getting underway at 9am both days Champions will be crowned in seven categories: boys, girls, mens and womens singles; mens and womens doubles and mixed doubles There is an entry fee for each category and players may enter in more than one category Players must supply their own tennis balls To enter, call Marian at 338-4220. The entry deadline is Thursday. June 18 Tuesday marked the third consecutive year the "76ers" met for lunch at McHenry Country Club. The name? I must have told you. There are 6 of us, all in our 70's. * The get together is marked by the return of "Zeke" Bacon to the old home town from his Arizona camping grounds Sib Whiting. "Marty" Conway and Gus Freund are former teammates of "Zeke" when McHenry boasted a great basketball team "Schmaltz" Miller and "Zeke" played a lot of golf together in days gone by. There is nothing like the conversation when old friends get together and start remembering events of way back when God willing, the "76ers" will meet again next year.
