McCullom Lake Dawn Miller 3(35-4901 OIders Defeat Youngers Team On Saturday, July 4, a very unusual and fun loving baseball game was held down at the beach. It con­ sisted of the Olders of the village playing against the Youngers of the village. The olders team consisted of Dave Hansen, Chuck Miller, Jim Conway, Jim Wyman, Jeff Levesque, John Morris, Ed Caron, Don Nelson, Jim Odom, Kevin Lavin and Dan Humphreys. The Youngers included Jimmer Wyman, Ricky Scarbrough, Rick Morris, Ron Davis, Rick Davis, Fred Dodd, Robert Dodd, John Cunningham, Karl Blom, Kurt Walter and Tim Klapperich. The game went through three umpires starting with Bill Gleeson then Earl Nelson and ending up with John Klapperich. From all that changing, you might gather that the game was a little hot and heavy. Some of the mishaps and glories of the game were Ed Caron getting hit with the ball by Younger's pitcher Ron Davis at the top of the fifth inning and having to take first base and Robert Dodd catching a beautiful fly by Don Nelson of the Olders making the second out for the Olders at the top of the fifth Inning. Some of the big hitters of the day were: John Morris of the Olders hitting a home run in the top of the third inning bringing in two other runs; Rick Morris of the Youngers hitting a home run at the bottom of the four­ th; and Kevin Laven of the Olders hitting a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning bringing the Heal score to 42. The Youngers final score was 8. Judging from the score, one would assume that the Olders played more ball in their youth than the Youngers. All in all, it was a beautiful day, and it was enjoyed by all" of us in the field and in the stands. Official County Fair Book Now Available Many people overlook, or are not aware, of entry requirements until too late, so this information about entries in the McHenry County fair comes from the official fair book. Copies are available at the fair office on the McHenry county fairgrounds, Building D. (338-5315). Junior and senior fairs are open to all ages from any locale. To compete in the Junior fair classes, the exhibitor must be 8 years old not 19 years as of Jan. 1, I960. All entries in open classes must be turned in at the fair office by 5 p.m. Friday, July 17. Premiums will be paid by the Fair association. Consult superintendent for the time and [dace of payment. No premiums will be awarded or -paid for any animal or article unworthy of competition. Superintendents have the right to reject entries that are unworthy of competition such as unclean, un­ manageable, or otherwise unsuitable to compete. The superintendent's ruling is final. The Fair association cannot be responsible for injury, fire, theft or any other cause. Specific rules on livestock handling are detailed in the fair book. Exhibitors' passes are required for all exhibitors and are to be purchased upon entry in fair com­ petition. Senior citizen's days are Wednesday and Thursday with tickets at a nominal fee. Two Local Men Enlist In U.S. Marine Corps David Colberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry G. Colberg of McHenry, and Michael Kearns, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kearns of Wonder Lake, recently enlisted in the United States Marine corps for a period of 4 years. Both will undergo recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CalLf. While at recruit training, they will be taught military customs and courtesies, first aid, confidence, and military history.
