With a week earlier start than he has given his first three Bear teams, head coach Neill Armstrong hopes to focus attention on his refurbished offensive system. Armstrong revised his offensive staff over the winter adding Tea Marchibroda as coordinator and Dick Stanfel as line coach to work with running back coach Hank Kuhlmann and receiver coach Ted Plumb. "It's a whole new system so the extra exposure will help," says Armstrong. "There's no reason we an't be expectea to contend for the NFC division title." Both teams tallied 10 runs each the rest of the way as the Fox Hole won by a 17-12 margin. In the bottom half of the five-run first, the Businessmen scored three k runs of their own. Tom ^ Spasojevich hit a bases loaded single for two RBIs, the big blow of the inning. Johnsburg third baseman Joel Wakitsch made the first in a string of excellent defensive plays as he snared Jim Yaworski's line shot in the second. But Billy Meyers was even more stingy with a pair of defensive gems a half inning later to thwart a Johnsburg rally. Both teams made up for their scoreless second inning by scoring four runs each in the third. Wakitsch made a pair of great stops but had no chance to throw out the Fox Hole runners. Add to that a missed opportunity to retire a Tap runner at the plate, plus RBI singles by Ron Miller and Don Bentz and the Fox Hole led 9-3. Wayne Hiller's leadoff home run was the big hit in the Businessmen third. Scott Letzter and Harry May added RBI singles before it was over and Johnsburg trailed 9-7. Both teams equaled each other in the fourth with three runs apiece. First baseman Scott Letzter made a sen sational bare hand grab on a wide throw form second to retire Don Bentz. Johnsburg put the 'Vinnie Freund' shift on to thwart Freund's bid to keep the inning alive. But the Fox Hole added three more runs to hold a 15-10 lead. Johnsburg's last rally lost steam in the sixth when outfielder Rich Meyers , caught Spasojevich in a rundown. Meyers not only started the proceedings with the throw from right center but ended up making the putout between second and third with seven Fox Hole defensive players getting into the act. It was the second time Meyers caught a runner too far off base and the second time Johnsburg ended an inning with the last batter hitting safely. Fox Hole's 15-12 lead was padded by two when Ron Miller knocked in both Yaworski and Meyers with the final runs of the contest. Miller led the winners driving in five runs with three base hits and a sacrifice fly. Myron Bentz knocked in four runs with four singles and had three runs scored, while Rich and Bill Meyers both went four for five with four runs scored. Steve Dobner and Jeff Meyers added two hits each. J o h n s b u r g ' s T o m Spasojevich went four for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. 'Spas' takes over the league batting leadership moving his average up to .731. Harry May went' three for three while John Meyers added a pair of doubles, a base hit and three runs scored. Both Wayne Hiller and Phil Oeffling had two hits each with Hiller scoring four runs.
