A mixture of chlorine bleach and water is most effective in eliminating mildew, but we cau tion against this on carpet that may fade. If you do choose to use a chlorine bleach, make the solu tion weak, and try it out first on a hidden pan of the rug. Don't use bleach on wool, and we caution against its use on white carpet, because bleach can turn the color yellow. There are other options. A heavy duty carpet detergent mixed with water and whipped into thick suds is also effective against mildew. a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and water, brushed into the carpet. Again, however, test on a hidden part of the carpet to make sure the mixture is safe on the fibers and color. Once this is done, open the windows to air the room. Then, if the house is damp, turn up the heat for about IS minutes. To ensure that treated areas of the carpet are really dry, we suggest you use your hair blower on moderate heat cycle. This will allow you to get down into the fibers where moisture is trapped, laying the trap for future mildew. Even after your carpet is mildew-free, there will be lin gering smells. It is now possible to do something about this. Once the carpet is dry, just " " r Car-sprinkle it with "Love My1 Brush deeply into the carpet, and then rinse the carpet with clean, warm water to remove all - pet.' a_ ru8 and room remaining suds. Any suds left to dry in the carpet become future dirt collectors. Another alternative o Another method is the use of deodorizer from the makers of Lysol® products. Then, vacuum, and you will- have, in place, a carpet and room filled with a fresh clean smell. Sidewalk Sale MANY ITEMS % <Snofi cA/[ccHut\y
