Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margaret Karas 385-4934 Lakeland Part & Lakeland Shores Officials Host Meeting Mayors and trustees of nearby communities were hosted by President Richard Hyatt and the trustees of the Village of Lakemoor Wed nesday, July 22. It was a meeting of the McHenry County Munic ipa l association, held at Chapel Hill Country club, with about ISO people attending. State Senator Jack Schaffer was the very witty speaker, giving his audience information interspersed with humor. His subject was the preservation of the Chain of Lakes and Fox River waterways, which is of such importance to all of us. Senator Schaffer in troduced the mayors, and also the mother of Lakemoor's president, Mrs. Marie Hyatt, making one of her rare public appearances. Also enjoying the delicious food and the whole evening, were Lakemoor trustees, Charles Godt and Mrs. Godt; Kathleen Kelley and her husband James; Walter Para and his wife Helen; village clerk, Lola Narcaroti and her son Renard and daughter Mary; and former trustee Barbara Nejedly and her husband Les. FIESTA FUN Mayor Byrne may have her Chicago Fest, but McHenry did great things with its Fiesta Fest. From the Wonder Lake Ski team, which really filled the watchers with wonder at their abilities, on to the finale of the Drum and Bugle Corps presentation, all tastes and all ages were given a chance for self ex pression and enjoyment. The Seven Mile River Run was entered by three youngsters from our area. Completing the 3% mile stretch were Chris Mumma, 23 minutes; Scott Mumma, 40 minutes; ahd Robert Gurske, 42 mihutes, 51 seconds. Robert reports his legs still hurt on Friday - not his feet, just his legs. We enjoyed the Concert in the Park Thursday night, which presented the excit Sound generated by the McHenry City Stage Band under the expressive body language leader, Bill Toailson. The energies of the Judy Svalander dance group was a tribute to the long hours of practice, completed with the burst from local dancers Robin Irwin and Pam Schaefer. The McHenry Chamber of Commerce has indeed given McHenry its very own ex cellent Fiesta Fest. BIKE ACCIDENT Young Kristy Snow was riding her bicycle down the hill in Lakemoor Friday June 17, when her brake cable got caught in the spokes of her bike. Over she went, hanging on to the cycle with all her strength. Results cfte9bo( C#w T DR. JACK R. Patty Chambers and Lisa Hibbs were among the first to aid Kristy, who cannot remember what happened after her fall. A resident came forth with clean towels, and medical help was soon on the way. Kristy can now almost smile again without too much pain. When asked what had happened to her, she replied, "I was in a fight- but you should see the other guy!" Her thoughtful father had suggested that response. Kristy has no broken bones to show for the accident, just a broken bike and lots of bruises. Thankfully, she is mending well, and ap preciates the kindnesses shown to her by her family and friends. YOUTH DROWNS Mark Ross, who spent his childhood years in the old Wegner farm house in Fritzsche Estates, drowned Saturday, July 18 in the Possum Run gravel pit. Sympathy is extended to the Ross family from former neighbors and friends. A tragic incident such as this, again reminds us that gravel pits are not legal places to go swimming. They are dangerous because the water is usually extremely deep and cold, and there is no shoreline that allows for a gentle drop off. The water in the pits always looks so inviting, but tragically, many find it their last earthly look. CAT OWNER FOUND The owner of the white cat written about in last week's column, had placed an ad in the Lost and Found section of the Citizen. The Gurskes called the number, and a positive identification was made. The cat was deaf, which accounted for his not hearing the approaching car, causing his death. The sad owners appreciated the care extended to their pet with one blue eye and one green eye. HAPPY DAYS Birthday wishes go to Nancy Stockwell on her day, ,July 29.
