pogt 29--Shaw Mmdia Group 1981 Fair Gu/d» Contests and competitors DEMOLITION DERBIES are always a popular attraction at the fair, and this year there will be two contests -- one Fri day evening and another Sunday evening. Fight to the finish in demolition derby WOODSTOCK -- Twice as much fun and excitement -- the famous Nationwide Demolition Derby is coming to the McHenry County Fair for two evenings instead of one. Performances will be at the grand stand on the fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 9. Men and women with plenty of nerve and a lust for thrills will stage deliberate crashes and compete for cash prizes and trophies. Local participants must supply their own cars. The car must be equipped with a safety belt and the driver must wear an approved crash helmet. When the green flag falls, the race becomes a highway crowded with crazy "Sunday drivers." The cars crash, smash and sometimes turn over until the competition becomes a dual bet ween the two surviving drivers. Then it is a fight to the finish. The checkered flag will signal the winner. With the flag goes a large cash prize. Official rules and entry blanks are available at the fair office on the Woodstock fairgrounds and at several other locations.
