By Stanley James How can the world know so little about the greatest literary genius of all time? He did study Latin and Greek for a time in public school, but history documents little formal education for William Shakespeare. Bor^i in 1564 in the English Village of Stratford- on-Avon, he was one of seven children. He married a woman eight years his elder when he was 18. And for the next seven years, the life of William Shakespeare is a complete historical void. He surfaces again in Lon don in 1592 as a popular poet and dramatist, writing and acting plays he wrote, plays which prevail among the finest literary masterpieces of his time or any other. Hamlet , Macbeth , Othello, Mktetunmer Night's Dream, Kfatg Lear, Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleo patra-All classics over the centuries. He averaged two masterpieces a year over a 15-year period. The U.S. Postal Service chose August 14, 1964, the 400th anniversary of his birth, to honor him with a five-cent stamp bearing his likeness. And Shakespeare readers of every age reaffirm the power and beauty of his writing. spurgeons New « V « Goodness it Fits!' by Playtex* 20% Reg. $9 to $10.50 Special Introductory Offer Ooff Here's the bra you've been waiting for not a big bra cut down to size, but a bra specially con structed and sized to meet your needs. AUGUST 28.1M1 An antique auction to be held in early October is being planned by the board of directors of the American Lung association serving DuPage and McHenry counties, to benefit the association in its year round activities of community and patient services, according to Henry B. Harper, Crystal Lake, president. Local residents are being asked to make a search of their attics or storage rooms for antiques and collectibles which would help make the auction a success, and to notify the American association in Woodstock by Sept. 15. Receipts acceptable to the Internal Revenue Service will be provided for all donors, Harper said. "Someone has already given us a chandelier that has 194 crystals and it's over 50 years old. There's a caribou head with antlers longer than your arms, and wait until you see the baby buggy from the 1880's Harper added. ' • 0 "Our lung association has been expanding its services to patients and their families, and this benefit auction will help us meet these increasing demands. We recognize the broad community support given by our citizens throughout the year, but we need additional items and ask our friends to please help us insure the success of this auction," Harper stated.
