V PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER • 1 R1DAY, AUGUST 28.1161 C of C Golf Pictor Defends M.W.I. Title When the name of a cer tain young lady with close family ties in McHenry becomes a household name on the ladies' pro golf tour, many in town can say they knew her when she played at McHenry Golf club. Destined for the big time, young Brenda Pictor, wife of our local Bradly Pictor, blew into town from Ranch Country club in Denver, Colo, and did a clean sweep on the "Pink and Green". Entered with a two handicap in the championship flight of the Seventh Annual McHenry Women's In vitational last Thursday and Friday, Brenda showed the field how future pros shoot golf. Demonstrating the maturity that has developed since last year, this young lady stayed out of trouble, approached with finesse, and controlled the greens with her putting. Shooting 75, one under women's par for the first day with 29 putts, Brenda took Medalist and a one-stroke lead over her nearest competitor, Ruth Heal of Kishwaukee who was in with a 77. As an extra little bonus on the first day, a straight- down-the-middle drive on 13 gave her longest drive in her flight. Charged up by her lead and the glorious weather that bless the two-day event, Ms. Pictor bettered herself on the second day by one stroke, shooting a 75 for a two-day total of 151. Overwhelmed by her opponent's mastery, Ms. Heal added seven strokes to her previous day's round for an 84, totalling 161. With even more green control on the second day, Brenda rolled in 26 putts for a total of only 55 putts for the tournament. Winning low putts over the entire field she was awarded a beautiful pink-trimmed jade putter as well as the handsome travelling championship trophy. Ms. Pictor is also one of only a few amateurs that has been invited to play in the LPGA in Denver, Col. August 27-30. 4 In addition to the Cham pionship play, a number of local gals did well in their various flights. Nell Fidler captured first place in Third Flight with 97-99 for 196. Shooting 97-105 for 202, Dot Freund took second place in Fourth Flight. Marlene Smith captured third Dlace in the same flight. With a 98 ... 95, Viginia Turner held down third place in second flight while Doris Freund of Chapel Hill in the same flight took seventh with 102-96. With a golf course in superb condition, due to the efforts of greenskeeper Harold Michels, and an efficient committee headed by Micki Becker and Eunice Hatch, and also a crew of pink and green clad men rangers, the McHenry Country club has put the M.W.I, in the position of being the most prestigious and envied amateur tour nament for women in this area of the country. Plans are already under way for next year's annual event. BOWLERS NEEDED LADIES LADIES LADIES LADIES MEN MEN MONDAY , TUESDAY FRIDAY ^ THURS.
