ARL WALSH* So I Hear Big news. The State of Illinois passed legislation making con cessions to attract industry to our state. Itmay>be too little too late. Changes, such as the work men's compensation benefits and cost, sent companies packing off to other states in recent years. Just thinking -- and not thinking too hard. The English language takes some funny twists. Some people say they are going to make dinner, some say cook dinner, others say fix dinner. Maybe you say you aj-e going to prepare dinner/ Do you make a cake or bake a cake? Who cares -- just get the food on the table and I'll take care of it. Marie Yegge doesn't seem nearly as upset as yours truly about the White Sox manager and players popping off about throwing games if it meant getting into the playoffs. Marie thinks it served a purpose. After all, it got Commissioner Kuhn off his duff to make a ruling to prevent such action. When our daughter, Trisha, was home recently, we recalled events of her college days' at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. Packing boxes, clothing and a thousand other items into one car was a challenge. One time I threatened to ask Herman Kreutzer for his beer truck. Packing to come home at the end 6f the school term was another problem. One of the most amusing sigjits was watching a family from Milwaukee picking up their daughter and her belongings. .i. The girl's parents thought it would be nice fo bring grandpa along for the ride. With the car packed, a real problem arose. No room for grandpa! Grandpa strolled along the walk unconcerned-- smoking a pipe. The girl's father was stumped and had some words of disgust. v Mama hustled around and used her ingenuity. Finally -- Milwaukee here we come! - Chapel Hill Last Tuesday, the Chapel Hill Ladies league ended the season on a wet but fun filled day. President Kathy Schultz announced the following winners. Mar Ray Costumes won first place in matched team play. In the Ranger contest, Doris Freund was the winner in Class A, Diane Derby, Lu Funk and Shirley Klapperich tied in Class B, and Nancy Kemp won in C Class. In the Low Net tour nament, Dottie Hayes took first place in Class A, Betty Gossell and Shirley Klap perich tied in Class B and Jan Rades won in Class C. Esta Pitts received a trophy for being the most improved golfer. Esta Pitts IMCNENRY WOMEN'S I | 16" SOFTBALL | Gearmaster won the Tuesday night playoffs in Women's 16-inch softball with two impressive vic tories. In the first game, Gear- master topped Sunnyside 14- 9 after a remarkable late inning rally. Trailing 9-4 going into the last inning, Gearmaster erupted for 10 runs aided by Mitch Cavataio's three-run home run to win. In the finale, Gearmaster bombed previously un defeated Ed's Rental 1*2-2 in a game called after five innings because of the slaughter rule. Peggy Lerman and Cavataio hit home runs for the winners qnd Ellen Schush added a triple to the attack. SKATE FOR MD More than 40 people skated at the Crystal Lake roller rink for Muscular Dystrophy earlier this month. After a ghieling 10 hours of roller laps, and two weeks of collecting pledges, over $3,200 has been turned over to the regional MDA office in Rockford, with another $500 or $600 still outstanding. Don Clark of Johnsburg won a trophy and stereo system for winning top honors by raising $350. Little Salt When doubling a recipe, don't double the amount of salt. A iittie bit of sait wiii go a long way. The same is true for many spices. POLICE TICKETS The City of McHenry Police department has issued the following citations. Cornelius J. Barry, 80B N.
