It is spon sored and coordinated by the McHenry County Defenders with various community groups participating by providing labor the day of the drive. Over the past eight years more than 70 groups have been involved in this en deavor. This Saturday's workers are members of Pi Alpha, a service sorority, with many members from, the city of McHenry. A month ago it became necessary to eliminate the category called "mixed < papers" from those items able to be recycled. This c a t e g o r y i n c l u d e s magazines, cardboard of all sorts, and junk mail. The aluminum pay-back program, which has been in ( effect at all drives this - summer on an experimental i, basis, will continue to be in effect at both the first and third Saturdays: drives. It has encouraged new people to become involved in recycling, which was its / objective, and plans are to. continue it. Those bringing in aluminum cans are en couraged to bring in their newspapers, glass bottles and jars, steel cans and used jnotor oil also. By so doing |hey help to conserve natural resources, save space in landfills and cut down cm the number of trash pick-ups their family requires. .' Anyone having questions regarding the drives or the preparation of recycled material should call the McHenry County Defenders representative at 385-8512 'before Saturday. **•* A poll seems accurate when its results are for your side. • * • • The only plan that counts for much is one that's carried out.
