GARDEN CLUB August for the Wonder Lake Garden club is traditionally our annual picnic where each member is welcome to bring a guest, along with her favorite dish to pass. It's a fun time to relax with friends and good food -- Richard Simons would have a fit! MOBILE EYE "Editor: "This is a rebuttal to the Sunnyside column headed, 'Vandalism is Local problem.' "It ended by asking, when does it stop,? "Well, I guess it will be decreased when all of us get together and start picking up behind our children and ourselves. You would be amazed at the articles left out after dark. Lawn- mowers, bicycles, hoses, children's toys, etc., being left out in the roads, ditches and front yards just waiting to be taken. We can't blame your Police department or the Mobile Eye unit for our own negligence. "Speaking of the police and the mobile units, we are doing our jobs respectfully. "After reading the column several times, first I was annoyed, then angered and now maybe somewhat un derstanding. "The Mobile Eye has now been operating since February, 1980, and yes we can deter vandalism and burglaries if all of us would help. "First of all, we need more concerned citizens with C.B. radios to take part in our unit as well as their own neigh borhoods and properties. We have been running two and three times a week and are spread pretty thin. We need everyone's help I know for a fact that we have reduced vandalism of our schools and _mm • DesbnerWndcw Fashions oMcHEnry Faint m-- m 3411 W. This probably doesn't mean a whole lot to some people, but it does to most of us, because this is our tax dollar paying for the broken windows, etc. "The Mobile Ey£ is not just a deterrent of vandalism and burglary, but it also is a n e i g h b o r h o o d h e l p organization. We, under the guidance of the County Sheriffs department, will help find a lost child, let people know when their fireplace exhausts hot sparks on the roof, and get help if someone has car problems at night, etc. Our base units have all the necessary information to help our neighbor when a problem occurs. We need the public's help so we can continue helping you. "Here are some of the things we can do ourselves to deter theft: Park cars with engine facing house, not street; close garage doors; leave outside lights on after dark ; pick up items Of Value from outside; buy a locking gas cap; keep eyes and ears open for unfamiliar vehicles in area. "Our meetings are held at Pistakee Highlands Com munity center the second Wednesday of every month at 8 p.m. If anyone is in terested, please stop by.
