The purpose of the project is to collect tree seeds which can be grown by the state nursery resulting in seedling stock that is adapted to northern Illinois. The program also helps to make native varieties such as oak and walnut available to residents of McHenry county. The seeds collected this year will help supply the seven million seedlings that will be needed by 1964. The district will accept any amount of the following species: Black Walnut, White Oak, Red Oak, Pin Oak, Hazelnut, Mixed Oak, and Hickory. With the exception of the mixed oak, all varieties of nuts should be kept in separate containers, clearly ifiarked with the collectors name, address and telephone number, plus the species of seeds collected. Containers should be delivered to the district office or to the residence of Tom McCarthy, 3216 State Park, McHenry. The district will arrange pickup where amounts of seed are in excess of 100 pounds. Any seed collected will be paid for on the basis of weight of the seed collected over the district scale and germination as determined by the state tree nursery at Havana, 111. Therefore. payment checks will not be available until after Nov. 15. No seed will be accepted after Oct. 16. If there are any questions regarding this program, direct them to the McHenry County Conservation district office. The district reserves a right to refuse all seeds once the state quota has been received. Any containers that should be returned should be so marked. These can be picked up one week after the seeds have been delivered to their respective site. r Ring wood News Doris Low Katy Christopher 653-9262 385-8037 STEP 1 ¥ STEP 3 f% r Doep Steam , r ^ Extraction i > PRICES PERTAIN TO AVERAGE SIZE ROOMS. Their ingenuity won them the 1st Prize trophy. Best of Parade, (unanimously). Titled "That's Life In The Country" (Ringwood), the float was a farm wagon, naturally, with farm scenes in miniature. There was the barn and house made by James Huff (Urb and Dorothy's son-in- law), Georgia and Rog's miniature windmill, a miniature calf and of course tractors, plow, disc, milking machine, and cans with the miniature farm yard and miniature farmers. Did you see grandma Bauer's chicken way up there on the back of the wagon? Well it was there. Those riding on the float and walking included Kevin and Lynn Bauer and sons, Steven and Chad ; James and Sandy (Bauer) Huff and children; Nicole and Paul Bauer, cousins; Scott, Jason and Christy, children of John and Pam (Bauer) Chambers., Bauer in German means farmer and the Bauer family has been farming in Ringwood since 1935. It all started with Olivia and Ed Bauer, whose children, are Urban, Roland, LuAnn, Marvin and Joan. If there are no numbers clearly visible, the squad has to locate your home by using your neighbor's house numbers. The squad recommends putting large numbers on your home, but not on the garage door. The numbers become useless if the garage door is up. Also, if you should need the Rescue squad and there are enough people present, send someone outsiae to flag down the turning on a pore I your home faster as wen. unecK to make sure your signs are up, if not, notify the Public Works department.
