The selection procedure is simple, yet it can be very complex under certain conditions. School enrollment shall determine the class in which each school participates. A conference champion must play at least four Illinois high schools, and play at least five conference games. A minimum of eight varsity games must be played by the conclusion of the ninth week, this year the date is November 7. A maximum of nine games may be counted towarrd the playoffs. If a game cannot be played because of a strike (in this area tne Elgin schools) every effort must be made to make up the game. If this cannot be done, the striking team must forfeit, will receive a loss on its record, and the team receiving the forfeit will have a win on its record. Conference champions are automatically in the playoffs. The selection for the At Large teams is a little more complex. An independent school which does not belong to any conference, with a winning percentage of 80 percent will be given first consideration. Conference co- champions not selected as a representative of its conference with a winning percentage of 80 percent will be given second consideration. If berths still remain, the I.H.S.A. will readjust winning percentages downward to complete the pairings, (this has never happened). A point system will be used to determine At Large teams. A first division (winning) team is one that has won more than 50 percent of its games (9-0, 5-4). A second division team is one that has won as many as it has lost, (4-4). A third division team losing more games than it has won, (4-5, 3-6). Point evulation will determine a school's total points. Victory over a first division team is 24 pts., second division team 16 pts., and a third division team 8 pts. This applies to conference games only. If a team beats a non-conference opponent in the same class (enrollment) add two pts., a loss is 0. If a team defeats an opponent one class up add three pts. Defeating a team one class lower add one pt., (no points for a loss). To defeat a team two classes higher add four pts., two classes lower one-half point. Loss to a team two classes lower subtract twopts. If a team defeats a opponent three classes higher add five pts., a win over a team three classes lower add one-fourth point. This is why the Blue Streaks will not play Marian Central. Playing a school in a lower class will hurt their chances at selection time for the playoffs, unelss they are conference champions. It is not as complicated as it seems, but a lot of good football teams lose out because of this point system. A good crowd should be on hand for Parents Night at McCracken field tonight. The Warriors looked impressive in their win over Stevenson last week, and a lot of people who couldn't make the game will want to see the new edition of the Fighting Warriors tonight. As you might expect I caught a lot of flack last week at the Warrior game from the fans, as I had picked the Warriors to lose to Stevenson. I won't make that mistake this week, as I'll pick the Warriors to notch number two over Grant. I'll pick Warren to upset the Tigers of Bill Mack in a close one. Antioch to beat Woodstock in a real ding dong game. Crown to beat Marian Central, Jacobs to beat Wauconda, South to defeat Stevenson, Dundee to edge St. Edward's, Cary over Lake Zurich. I think the Skyhawks will beat Grayslake, in another close game. APPEARING FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 25th DYNAMICS For Your Listening ond Dancing Plaasuro S2 Cover . No Cover Charge 21 and Over ••• with Dinner Ticket Plaindealer The Fox Hole Tap swept two straight versus the Johnsburg Businessmen in Monday evening's semi-final action to earn the right to meet Wayne's or Doherty's in die Championship series beginning next Monday evening. \ The Tap won their first encounter 12-10 in a game Johnsburg literally handed to them on a silver platter. Fielding errors and sloppy base running throughout the game thwarted a last inning rally which narrowed the Tap's eight-run lead to just two and had the tying Businessmen runs on base. Fox Hole scored 12 runs in the third inning of game two to break Johnsburg's back and go on to win easily 20-5. In game one, John Meyers started Johnsburg off on the right foot with a leadoff double in the first Jim Meyers next hit a short liner to right center in which Rich Meyers made a good running catch. Rich threw quickly to Ron Miller covering second base to double John Meyers who thought the ball was going to drop. Third batter Wayne Hiller took a call third strike and Johnsburg fans felt more than the chill of the 50 degree weather. Ron Miller put Fox Hole on the scoreboard in the second with a triple to score Twig Miller who had doubled to lead off. Ron then scored on a throwing error to give the Tap a 2-0 lead. Johnsburg tied the score in the third when John Meyers singled in both bob Wakitsch and Mark Schultz. Wakitsch and Schultz had also singled all after two outs. In the top of the fourth the Businessmen took the lead for the first and last time in their semi-final series. Wayne Hiller hit a leadoff single and later scored on Tim Frantz's double. Frantz scored a play later when a throwing error gave him two bases. Hie 4-2 Johnsburg lead was shortlived as the Fox Hole sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame. Nine runs scored and the Tap led 11-4. Willie Howard had the big hit. a two-run single. Ron Miller, Mike Yaworski, Jeff Mora's, Jim Yaworski and Bill Meyers all added RBI singles. And, along with three errors, all eight hits were after two outs. Jim Yaworski singled in Jeff Meyers in the sixth to £ve Fox Hole an eight-run ad. Both ' had just garnered their third hits of the contest which led all Tap hitters. And then came the seventh inning in which Johnsburg nearly put together the miracle rally.. Another runner was caught off base and who knows what might have been as the rally just fell short. Tim Frantz scored the first run while Scott Letzter was being put out in a run down between first and second. Seven more Businessmen hits in a row closed the gap. Mark Schultz had a two run-triple while John Meyers, Wayne Hiller, and Tom Spasojevich had RBI singles. Meyers had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Johnsburg batters. Rich Meyers, Don Bentz, Twig Miller and Ron Miller had RBI singles with Bill Meyers adding a sacrifice fly. Johnsburg needed five innings to match the Tap's first inning. John Meyers, who finished six for seven in the series, doubled and scored on Wayne Hiller's g| ul| long sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the first. Hiller knocked in three more runs in die contest with an RBI (foible* in the third and a two- run homer in the fifth while Scott Letzter's sacrifice fl; in the second accounted f< the other Businessmen run. Otherwise it was all Fox Hole with the winners pounding out 15 more hits, taking advantage of six base on balls and six Businessmen errors and including the biggest inning ever in playoff nistory (12 runs). Ron Miller and Bill Meyers had two-run hits in the big inning. Vinnie Freund, Jim Yaworski, Don Bentz, Mike Yaworski and Willie Howard had RBI singles. For Donerty's, who went 16-0 during regular season, it was not only their first loss but the first time any team has scored more than 10 runs against them! The winners started wtih a strong first inning as they batted around, slamming seven hits including a three- run homer by Wayne Roewer and doubles by Rich Kuchera and Tom Burke. Don Prazak added a 2-run single while Tom Prudden and Rick Wiegman had RBI base hits. Doherty's scored a run in the first on Mike Roger's bloop double and Jerry Brodin's double. But Wayne'* struck for four more runs in the tecond to move ahead 11-1. George Cadotte had the big hit, a long triple over the left center fielder's head, to drive in a pair of Wayne's runners. Pat Burke singled in one^run while Rick Wiegmjan sacrificed for run. . v' ... Mike Peterson scored on a double pay in Doherty's half of the second while Tom Roach singled in another run. Jerry Brodin's solo home run closed the gap to 11-4 in the third. But Kevin Horner retaliated for Wayne's with a home run in the fourth to put the winners up by eight Dick Doherty helped Ills own team out in their half of the fourth with an RBI single. But Doherty's would not come from behind in this contest, nor could they put together the big inning Uke they've done Wayne's shortstop Rich Kuchera made certain of that as he scooped up everything and anything his way. Kuchera included one fine (day in the first when be picked up, without losing stride, a deflected ground shot off pitcher Pat Burke's glove and threw out Jeff Meddings at first. Wayne's scored four more runs in the fifth with Tom Burke getting a two-run single and Tom Prudden driving in another run with a double. Rick Wiegman added insult to injury as he pumped a home run over the fence in left center to aid the game by the 12- run slaughter rule in the sixth. Wiegman went three for three with three RBIs while Tom Burke added three hits to lead all hitters in the contest.
