Neiss was elected commander to succeed William Bickler, who has served the past year. Howard Cairns was chosen vice-commander. A meeting of the Fox River Improvement association was held in the village hall at Cary. Resolutions were adopted demanding that the $25,000 appropriated by the Illinois general assembly for the improvement of Fox river be spent at once to rehabilitate the stream between Burton's bridge and McHenry. The McHenry Locals concluded a very successful season by winning over a combined Long Lake and Round Lake team, 4-2. It made it twelve straight and showed the winning ability of the Locals. Ed Thennes blasted a triple that \tas really the deciding low, because it drove in one run. The pinch hitters and utility men proved their worth by scoring a run. William Kreutzer doubled and scored when T. Anderson followed suit. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 2, 1941) McHenry county school directors voted to make a "county school survey to determine advisability of Consolidation in certain areas. Delay Some Street Works When I spoke to Cecilia Serritella last week she gave me the answers to some questions people from our subdivision have asked me. The Meadow lane project has been delayed until the Spring of 1982. The Oak street project which is a temporary extension of the present Oak street is scheduled to have work begin in a few weeks. This is certainly a big plus in our ward. Regarding other road repair, the city has been unable to obtain black topping because of strike conditions. These repairs will be done as soon as material is available. Ceil also suggests that with Fall upon us, come out and walk through one of our beautiful parks we have here in McHenry. AT LAST The block mother cam paign hit some snags since we first mentioned the idea but now it looks like all systems are go. I will be calling everyone who volunteered in the next two weeks to make arrangements to deliver the signs that will be displayed in their front window. If you would like to help your community by allowing us to use your house as an emergency stop for children in need, please give me a call at 385-7246 or Ceil Serritella at 385-1480.
