Woods reveal almost a half million dollar increase in the total assessed valuation of all property in McHenry county for 1941 as compared to the total of 1940. Exact figure of the increase is $477,990. McHenry was listed at $4,115,470. The third burglary of a McHenry county rural school house within a week was reported to Sheriff Lester Edinger by Miss Evelyn Peters, teacher at the Griswold Lake School District 10. Miss Peters said a radio, pens and pencils and other small miscellany had been removed from the school house some time the night before. A window had been forced. The school is located southeast of McHenry and ",teaSt"br,Bur- ton's Bridge. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of October 25, 1956) McHenry is justly proud of one of its prettiest and nicest teenagers. She is 14-year-old Mary Lu DelMonte, who resides with her parents in Millstream subdivision and attends the local high school as a freshman student. Last summer she was selected to star as Linda McCandless, daughter of a Wisconsin dairy farmer, in a Disney movie. Starting Nov. 5 this 10-week serial will be seen on the Mickey Mouse TV show. So fast has her fame spread that Mary Lu was selected for a two-page feature of pictures and her life story in the Chicago American. McHenry, as part of the Rockford Catholic diocese, has a new bishop in the person of the Mast Rev. Loras T. Lane, whose ap­ pointment was announced. The diocese includes the 11 northwest counties of the state. Friends are happy to learn that Paul, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Seeber of Sunset View subdivision, will appear on the Chicago amateur hour on Channel 9 television and WGN radio. He will play an organ solo, "Finger Boogie." TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of October 29, 1971) The Illinois Commerce Commission announced this week that authorization has been given for extension of Bull Valley road east from the Crystal Lake-McHenry blacktop to Rt. 31. The project has been under discussion for several years, and the first action came two and a half years ago when the McHenry county board of supervisors approved a resolution for its extension.
