* PAC^-J r INDSALER- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21,1961 WALSH -- So I Hear Mrs. Lisle (Vivian) Bassett came a-callin' and brought some old time pictures that I will look over with our dear Editor. Vivian also brought the following which I told her I would like to use here sometime when ideas are not with me. That time is now! We do not know the author, but feel sure he won't mind sharing his thoughts with our readers It was dated in 1969 , GRANDFATHERS ARE GRANDFELLOWS A perceptive little boy pays tribute to his grand father and to grandfathers everywhere in the world. Here is what he says in this guest editorial "Grandfathers are im portant people - even tho Grandmothers sometimes say they aren't They like l i t t le girls and boys and sleds and trains and bikes and skates Sometimes they even l ike dolls. But they prefer sleds and skates and bikes." Thev like basements, too Grandfathers spend lots of time in basements, making things like baskets and chairs and stuff that Grandmothers don't know what to do with. If you ask them, Grandfathers will make things for you too, like doghouses, and train tracks and pictures for your room." "Grandfathers are smart. Maybe the smartest thing about them is that they always have nickles and dimes to buy candy and ice cream with." "They don't run much, but they like to play catch. And they know an awful lot about baseball and football. They tell stories, too, and they laugh loud and you feel good when you're with them.' "They're always big - and sometimes they knock things down in the house. Then Grandmothers get mad That's when Grandfathers take you out for a walk and you look at squirrels and talk to the neighbors and find out all about policemen and firemen - and why clouds have rain inside them. And then you stop someplace for a candy bar." - "Grandfathers don't igo away to work all day and come home all tired and talk about work at night. And they don't tell you not to talk when you want to... and they don't tell you to eat all your vegetables, either." "A lot of Grandfathers don't have much hair on their heads, but they don't talk about that. They'd rather talk about you - and what you're doing - and that's the best thing of all about Grandfathers. They've got all the time in the world - JUST FOR YOU" " Now, if we can get one describing grandmothers. We like to give equal time. There has been one lonely robin in our back forty. Now there are two. Wonder if they were asleep when their kind took off for the south. They will be sorry %hen they go bob-bob-bobbin' along over a foot of snow. Ran into an old file folder from way back when people were complaining about the cost of postage stamps. First class stamps were up to 4 cents. Jim Curran read that contribution "Jim died today" and hastened to report he is very much alive and kickin'. It is nice to meet people like Mrs. Walter Carey who tells us about reading the Plaindealer whether in McHenry or Florida. Said she enjoyed reading that old ordinance about horses and motor vehicles so much she bought four extra copies to send to friends. She even enjoys "Musin' and Meanderin'". Yep. That's what she said! It was good to meet Pastor Herman Graef at the Rotary Ham Dinner S^unday. After surgery, he is all heart and hea/rty. The friendly Pastor will probably be meeting and greeting as usual at the Zion Lutheran Church annual chicken dinner Nov. 11. We have our tickets and will be there for the finger lickin' feast. Nancy Shulda says she has hopes for our country after a recent experience. Nancy and her mother were driving to Milwaukee when they spotted a stand where watermelons and muskmelons were being sold. They wheeled around and drove back to the stand. Nobody was in attendance, but the price was marked on each melon. An "honor system" box was placed for all to see so they could put in their money ar.d make change. That is real faith in your fellow man. A CONTRIBUTION: How To Get Along With People 1. Speak to people - nothing is as nice as a cheerful word of greeting. 2rSmile at people • it takes 72 muscles to frown, only 5 to smile. 3. Be generous with praise - praise LIFTS. Criticism LOWERS. 4. Be thoughtful of the opinion of others - there are three sides to a controversy ... yours, the other side, and the right side. A white wine made from black grapes. The term mainly refers to most French Champagnes which are made from the juice of Pi not Noir (blacky grapes from which the skins are removed before fermentation so that the alcohol produced does not extract the col or. In France, there are a limited number of producers that product Champagnes which are totally Blanc de Noirs. Most French Cham pagnes are a blend of Blanc de Noirs and Blanc de Blancs. What is the difference between White Creme de Menthe and Pep permint Schnapps? Both are white, peppermint-flavored liqueurs. Peppermint Schnapps is lighter in taste and not as sweet as White Creme de Menthe. Some cordials are sweetened and some are not. True or false? False.
