p u.i; 4 . KID AY, OCTOBER 23, 1981 ARL WALSH- So I Hear catcher ca g Tig illed " Little Joe". At this time of year, the leaves are mighty pretty on the trees. _ On the ground, they don't have much appeal unless you are a kid who likes to make houses out of the fallen beauties. I told our friends and neighbors, Bill and Virginia Kreutzer, that I was praying for a southwest wind to send our leaves over to them. Trouble with our figuring is that somebody else's leaves will come our way. Can't win. Those poor Chicago Bears! The world loves a winner - -- and winners they ain't. The coach is always the one to get the axe, but it isn't fair. In the case of the Bears, the responsibility seems to point to the general manager. No coach can look good if he doesn't have the horses. Even without the many injuries, the Bears need better horses. John Busscher phoned to ask if our bet is still on for the World Series. It's automatic. I take the American League. John takes that other league We are both mixed up. 1 am not a Yankee fan by a long shot, but have to stay with the league winner. John is not head over heels in love with either the Yankees or Dodgers, but has to string along with his league. --And hope to Win the bet! Most fans have other favorites. Montreal, Oakland, Milwaukee and Houston had strong followers. If the Yankees had to win, the Dodgers should have the best chance against them. They have southpaw pitchers and experience in series competition. It is the flame throwing bullpen of the Yankees that may decide the series. The Dodgers don't have that kind of relief help. Who has? Another state license number observed: "ju$*r||r A CONTRIBUTION^ Have you ever wondered who and what you really are? What EFFORTS have you made to make up your mind today-To smile at everyone you' meet, and if in unison just say "hi ya". I am quite certain you will be surprised to find out how many nice-, people will answer with a nice smile and sometimes a little "hi ya" in return. Back some years, the Joe Freund was a scrappy, crowd-pleasing ball of fire behind the plate. He died last week. Now, wouldn't it be heavenly if "Little Joe" could meet "Manager Joe" Frett up there? Jinxed or snake bit can best describe our football Warriors in Homecoming games. Through 13 years, with different players and different coaches, the Warriors haven't won on Old Grads Day. Maybe the pre-game excitement is too much for our teams. Let's hold the bonfire and festivities until after the game. It would be nice to celebrate a victory.< SUDDEN THOUGHT-- Have you noticed that athletes and coaches pick good looking girls for their wives? Larry Nimsgren posted a list telling the cost of various barber services. One that caught my eyes was "Long Hair - $7.00 and Up". He spent 10 minutes searching for a long one on my noggin'. His Weakest Moment A man is never so weak as when a pretty girl is telling him how strong he is. -Coast Guard Magazine. Meaning What?
