Mothers who wish to nurse their babies are given correct information and support. Points of discussion will include the advantages to mother, father and baby of prepared childbirth; mothers' thoughts on the father's role and trie ad­ justment of siblings to the new baby. The league has a lending library which is an excellent •source of information on topics such as breastfeeding, childbirth and nutrition. Nursing babies are always welcome. It has been announced by President Dorothy Messer that the observance of American Education week will be from Nov. 15 to Nov. 21. American Education week was instituted in 1921 through the combined action of the AiAerican Legion and the National Education association. Since then, the United States of Education and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers have joined in the sponsorship. Through the years, over 50 other national groups have added their services as 'supporting organizations'. The education of our youth paves the way for future leaders of "Democracy In Action". The American Legion believes that education is a necessary prerequisite to the func­ tioning of government. Evelyn Osmon, Unit Education chairman, an­ nounced the 31st edition of "Need A Lift" will soon be ready for distribution. ,JLjs nationally recognized as'dne of the best ' sources of" education aids and op­ portunities in the country. Copies will be placed in all junior and senior high schools and will be given to the guidance counselors. The American Legion auxiliary offers scholarships in three categories; National Presidents scholarship, Trade School scholarships and Opportunity scholar­ ships. The latter is offered to persons who wish to com­ plete a college education already begun. Candidates for these scholarships shall be veterans or children of veterans who have served during the eligibility dates for membership in the American Legion. BPW Club To Present Style Show The Harvard Business and Professional Women's club will present a style show entitled "Holiday Elegance- Country Style" Monday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The show will be held at the Harvard Moose lodge, Route 173 west in Harvard. In addition to the newest in holiday fashions for women, men and teenagers, the show will feature demonstrations on holiday decorating. Ticket information is available by calling 815-943- 6383. Thanksgiving is fast ap­ proaching and plans are well underway for FISH baskets for this holiday. , All types of non-perishable canned foods are needed; paper products, soaps, detergents, etc. We will welcome any squash, apples,. or other bounty from your garden, as well as cash, checks, money orders or certificates from local super markets. These are needed for the necessary perishable items, including turkeys and turkey roasts that we try to provide for each family. The baskets will be prepared and delivered on Sunday, Nov. 22, in St. Patrick's church hall, 3500 W. Washington street (en­ trance on the west side of the church). Any donations may be left on the landing to the church hall Saturday, the twenty-first, or anytime before noon mi Sunday. A local pizza place will be having a Christmas canned food drive beginning Nov. 16 through Dec. 13, allowing a generous discount on large and small pizzas to those who bring canned food for under their Christmas tree. The food collected will be given to FISH for distribution to the needy of our area. We still have been unable to fill requests for a full size box spring, dressers (any size or condition), two stoves, a 30-inch electric and one gas range; living room chair and a baby crib. FISH has a great need for drivers; people willing to sign Up for one day a month to take folks to a doctor, dentist or other ap­ pointment. AND MRS. THOMAS LAFONTAINE CARRIBEAN HONEYMOON - Newly married Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lafontaine are making their home at 121 E. South street, Woodstock, after a Carribean cruise honeymoon. The bride is the former Kathleen Coleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Coleman and Arlene Coleman, of Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lafontaine, 202 N. Green street, McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. The couple exchanged promises of marriage before Pastor Hal LeMert, Aug. 15, during a 4 p.m. ceremony in the First United Presbyterian church, Woodstock. A reception was held at the American Legion hall in McHenry for 150 guests. The bride, a graduate of Crystal Lake high school, is employed at Weins Apparel, Woodstock. The bridegroom graduated from Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock, and is employed as a salesman for Woodstock Brick & Supply. Next THEOS Meeting Set The next meeting of the T.H.E.O.S. group is scheduled to be held Mon­ day, Nov. 18. Those at­ tending will meet for dinner at 5:30 p.m., at the Village Squire, 4512 W. Elm street, McHenry, and then proceed to the First United Methodist church for an evening of fun and fellowship. At that time, plans will be made for a special celebration at Christmas. Members met for a theatre party Sunday, Nov. 8, and attended the play "Gypsy" at the Woodstock Opera House, following dinner at a restaurant in Woodstock. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all. T.H.E.O.S. is a warm and friendly group, non- denominational, with no age restrictions, for widows and widowers, meeting the third Monday evening of each month for dinner at a local restaurant and then going to the First United Methodist church for fun and fellowship. The Foods You Eat Featured At Meeting Breathing problems and the foods you eat will be the featured topic at the Tuesday, Nov. 24 meeting of the "PAL" breathing club. The new health awareness group, sponsored by the American Lung association of DuPage and McHenry in cooperation with McHenry hospital, is designed to help people suffering from lung ailments and their families. Isabelle Brody, R.D., staff dietician at McHenry hospital, will present the featured topic at 7:30 p.m. in the McHenry hospital Board room. Handling one's breathing problems during the winter will also be discussed by Harold Wim- mer, program director for the lung association.
