The new Mrs. Barnes graduated from Luther college, Decorah, Iowa and has been a parish worker for several years at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. Karen Colomer, Yearbook chairman, announced that the chapter won third place in Yearbook competition held in Springfield at the Illinois State convention and she gave the chapter a certificate and check. Sue Amerson presented a program on "The Voices Behind You." Ritual of the Badge was presented to Barb Kellogg and Ritual of Jewels to Fran Black, when the group met at the home of President Etta McCarthy. New members were the recipients of yellow roses and the program, "Women to Whom We Are Indebted" was given by Marlene Knutilla and Dee Boeka. The chapter made plans to visit the Christmas House in St. Charles on Nov. 21, and Thanksgiving favors were made and delivered by members to a local nursing home. CHRISTMAS SALE On Saturday. Dec. 5, members of the Mary- Martha Guild of St. John Lutheran church in Island Lake will be holding their annual Christmas sale, offering an excellent op­ portunity to select hand­ made novel and useful ar­ ticles for gift giving this Christmas. Both are seniors at Luther college; she majoring in Psychology and he in Economics and Management. A September wedding is planned at St Benedict's Catholic church in Decorah. Catholic Daughters Practice Unity-Charity Members of the unique C a t h o l i c D a u g h t e r s organization display their e t t i t o t d e s o f ' u n i t y a n d charity' in many simple but worthwhile attempts. In a recent article, a medical mission expressed the serious problems presented when soap is unavailable. In another instance, project 'Hand Clasp' revealed the urgent need of a sewing machine. It was determined that the popular Shop and Share program would be an ex­ cellent means of raising funds to aid each cause. Inactive members are urged to seek further in­ formation regarding these efforts and everyone is in­ vited to join in the festivities of the regular monthly meeting and Christmas party Dec. 3. Anne Marie Hellyer is chairman of this event which will take place at the Knights of Columbus hall, beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will be no meetings in January and February.
