Huntley Woman To Aging Meet During 1980, Region Two Area Agency on Aging staff and service providers ac­ tively sought grass roots opinions on issues of concern to older citizens by spon­ soring community forums and county speak-out sessions to prepare for the White House conference on Aging being held in Washington, D.C., Nov. 30- Dec. 3. The Illinois White House conference on Aging held in May, 1981, provided the opportunity for 2,000 persons to discuss and develop recommendations and resolutions for presentation at the White House con­ ference on Aging. Representing older per­ sons from the eight-county area of Region Two Area Agency on Aging, appointed by Illinois members of Congress, appointed by Governor Thompson and elected at the state con­ ference include, as an ob­ server, Louise Kreutzer, Huntley. These delegates and ob­ servers are participating in assigned committee deliberations as well as the conference plenary sessions during the five day White House Conference on Aging. NEWS i Den 1 The following Pack 142 boys received awards at the November* p&ck meeting:^ Charles Carlson, Wolf award and the Gold Arrow; Donald Collins, the Wolf award and the Gold Arrow; Derrick Duncan, Wolf award; An­ thony Leva, Wolf award and Gold Arrow; Jim Lynott, Wolf award and the Gold Arrow. The boys of Den 1 have worked extremely hard to accomplish this in such a short time period. The Den has been working on Thanksgiving projects. The boys are arranging for the Pack 142 bake sale at Hornsby's Dec. 12. Den 7 Den 7 followed the Be Firesafe theme by demonstrating safety procedures in the home. The cubs also wrote and per­ formed a skit for Halloween including making paper sack masks and costumes. Three new cubs received their Bobcat awards: Jerry Luciano, Brett Newbrough and Ricky Yager. Ken Black received the Wolf rank; Ean McCarthy and David Robinson received silver arrows. For participating in all three pack summer events, Ken Black and David Robinson received the National Summertime award. Den 8 This month the boys of Den 8 made a game of skill called Lemme Sticks. They painted the windows at Valley View school's Autumn Fest. Den 8 celebrated Veteran's day with a cookout at Veteran's Acres park. They were given a private tour of the McHenry Fire station by retired fire chief, Ed Justin, who is also Paul Sandrock's grandpa. The boys have begun to work with knives and learn basic knife safety. They have made a "Fizz Stick" fire starter and a bird feeder. CUB PACK 131 The monthly pack meeting was held Thursday, Nov. 19. It was a night in which the cubs and their fathers demonstrated their cake baking abilities. The theme for the cake bake was Discover America, and several versions were displayed. From each den one was selected as the best. Awards went out for first, second dnd third place overall. The first place winner also received the plaque for overall best depicting the theme. The den winners were: Den 1, Steve Smith; Den 2, Ryan Klier; Den 3, Dan Koester; Den 4, Paul Funk; Den 5, Mike Kasper; Den 6, Dean, Jamie and Mark Covalt. The Webelos winner was Joe Halwax. Third place overall went to Ryan Klier, second to Dan Koester and first and grand champion was Joe Halwax. All the first-year Cubs were awarded their Bobcat patch after having given the Cub Scout pledge and promise. The Webelos received awards for accomplish­ ments as a citizen, sport­ sman, athlete and out- doorsman. Several awards were handed out. It was a fulfilling night and all the Cubs are working hard on their advancements. During the December meeting the boys will be handing out the Pinewood derby cars which will be placed in competition during the January meeting.
