DECEMBER 2.1*1 McHenry high school's Pom Pon squad successfully competed against 23 other high school squads from the northern Illinois area recently in Regionl competition. The Warrior girls placed first in their division In the originality routine and second among all schools in the prop-dance category. The pom pon squad, which performs at all home basketball games, now looks forward to further competition in February. STAFF PHOTO - WAYNE GAYLORD Buss-Stop Defeats St. Regis 66-64 In the game touted as the battle of the top two teams in the league, Jim Heard led Buss Ford-John's Sport Stop to a 66-64 win over St. Regis Pub in Men's Park District basketball. Heard, the biggest man in the league, netted 17 points in the contest as Buss-Stop won its second straight game. The Buss-Stop took command in the first half with Randy Neiss scoring 10 points to lead the surge. With 13 minutes remaining in the contest, St. Regis took the lead. The final 12 minutes of the game was a see saw struggle until an aggressive Buss-Stop defense won the game by forcing sseveral turnovers. The Pub's Brian Miller fouled out which severly hurt his team's chances to win. Neiss finished with 14 points for the winners as did teammate Steve Kasperzyk. Buss-Stop 37-29 • 66 St. Regis 34-30 - 64 Christopher's Men's Wear kept pace with the Buss-Stop by winning its second straight game 79-57 over Peer Inn. Don Harris, the league's leading scorer, threw in double figures in each half and finished with a game high 21 points. Christopher's again displayed balanced scoring as Twig Miller followed with 14 points, Ken Ludwig had 12, and Mike Wilcox had 11. Christopher's 39-40 - 79 Peer Inn 28-29 - 57 Hiller Constrruction won its first game of he year in impressive fashion by crushing Orchard Heihts 78- 39. The winners were led by John Meyers with 22 points and Jim Meyers with 15. Joe Huemann added 11 and Jeff Meyers had 10 points in the well balanced scoring at­ tack. Coach Don March's Skyhawks defeated Lanark 51-18 recording six pins along the way, but suffered six pins in losing 42-18 to host Winnebago. Lars Swanson (119), Mike Hurckes (132), and Brian Elia (155) each recorded a pair of victories for John- sburg with Elia's two vic­ tories both being ac­ complished via pin. After hosting Hampshire and Hebron Tuesday night, Johnsburg will travel to Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 5 to compete in the 12-team Richmond Tournament. By weight class, here are the individual per­ formances: 98 lbs. Guy Bazilweich was pinned by Morgan of Lanark and also by Arnold of Win­ nebago. 105 lbs. Dale Zalke pinned Knight of Lanark, but was pinned by Caporiola of Winnebago. 112 lbs. Mike Cahill won by forfeit against Lanark and was pinned by Schelm of Win­ nebago. 119 lbs. Lars Swanson pinned Gruhn of Lanark at 1:45 in the first period; and also won 9-4 over Wilson of Winnebago. 126 lbs. Dave Moravec pinned Nelson of Lanark at 1:19 in the first period; but was pinned by Swalve of Win­ nebago. 132 lbs. Mike Hurckes pinned Hasz of Lanark at 1:29 in the second period; and also won 13-7 over Grover of Win­ nebago. 138 lbs. Joe Kalisek won via forfeit against Lanark, but lost 2-0 to Palm of Winnebago. 145 lbs. Brett Everett pinned Koser of Lanark at 1:10 in the first period; but lost 8-1 to Grebas of Winnebago. 155 lbs. Brian Elia pinned Medendorp of Lanark at : 15 in the first period; and he also pinned Daly of Win­ nebago at :32 in the third period. 167 lbs. Moe Dreyer suffered two pins - by Nansel of Lanark and by Osborne of Win­ nebago. 185 lbs. Mike Dalan was pinned by Wilkening of Lanark at 1:16 in the third period ; but came back to pin Wood of Win­ nebago at 1:41 in the second period. Heavyweight John Grenman won by forfeit against Lanark; but was pinned by Wilson of Winnebago. Johnsburg's junior varsity squad defeated both Lanark 60-0 and and Winnebago 29-26 to give coach Mike Roberts a 2-0 record. The Skyhawks were awarded forfeits in 10 of the 12 matches against Lanark and in the other two recorded pins. Winning by pins were Tom Ziebel (119) and Bentley Treat (167). Winning matches against Winnebago were at 112,Jeff Corbeil (decision9-2); at 126, Tom Kinney (pin); at 138, Mark Dumelle (pin); at 145, Norman Rokosz (pin); at 167, Treat (again via pin).
