During the\ same evening Miss Zena Whiting, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Whiting of Ringwood, won second place in the second annual country life beauty contest held at St. Mary's mi. Miss Whiting, a graduate of the McHenry high\ school, won second place^mong 19 contestant from McHenry county. Mr, and Mrs. Richard Overton have moved from the Rose Huemann home to the home of his parents on Waukegan street, where they will live while Mrs. R. I. As their part of spreading Christmas cheer, the McHenry Choral club will sing carols throughout the city on Dec. 22. TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of December 13, 1956). Net earnings of $186,273.29 during the year ending Dec. 1,1956, were reported by the office of County Treasurer Vernon W. Kays. This was a new all-time high for the office. Earnings from various sources totalled $227,674.02 and expenditures reached $41,400.73 leaving the net earning stated above. In his annual report to the County board, the treasurer showed that the county spent $2,024,029.58 during the year. When young Paul Diedrich ran to his mother, Mrs. Louis Diedrich, his eyes twice their normal size as he told her one of Santa's reindeer was lost and had wandered into their yard, she thought the little fellow had been instilled with an over abundance of Christmas spirit. However, when she looked into their yard, she, too, saw a beautiful, yoOhg reindeer eating parsley from the Diedrich garden. . TEN YEARS AGO . (Taken from the files of December 22, 1971). The October distribution of $4,634,186 to the counties and municipalities under Illinois income tax revenue sharing includes $2,823.71 for the city of McHenry. The local figure was third highest in the county, based on population. Crystal Lake received $6,063.15 and Woodstock was second with $4,263.93.
