OOOOOOOOQOOW Safety Hints 900CM900000000 By Secretary of State Jim Edgar The best rule for fog is to avoid driving. If you must drive, here are some things you should do to help stay out of accidents: 1. Sharply reduce your normal driving speed. 2. Reduce speed still more wben you see headlights or red taillights. The headlights may be on a vehicle coming down the center of the road, and the vehicle with the taillights may be stopped along the roadway, or just barely moving. 3. Be prepared for an emergency stop, and keep within the limits of your vision. If the fog becomes so dense that you can barely see, cautiously pull off the road and stop. Do not creep along at 5 or 10 miles an hour. 4. You probably will be able to see more clearly if your headlights are dimmed Certain types of fog lights are helpful. 5. Caution your passengers to be alert for lights or other obstructions ahead on the road. Extra care always is advised in bad weather, and you never can be too cautious when driving in fog. If you have any questions about the Secretary of State s office, please feel free to use our toll-free telephone number (800-252- 8980). There 's good news for consumers in turkey pr ices . The 1981 turkey crop is large, and prices are down! Decide before purchase how big a bird you want to buy. In calculat ing the amount ol ready-to-cook turkey weight per person for a s ingle meal , you should f igure three-fourths of a pound per person. Thus, a nine- pound bird would provide amp le servings for 12 persons. I f s ignif icant amounts of lef tover meat are desired, select a turkey of larger s ize . You' l l need to decide if you want a whole turkey. For the smaller hol iday feast or any regular meal , turkey is avai lable in rol ls and roasts . These can be obtained as al l whi te meat , mixed or al l dark meat . I f your eaters have a def ini te preference as to type of meat , the rol l or roast might be your best buy. There are also other advantag es , such as no bones and ease of carving.
