He was too tired. Hadn't seen Wayne Smith in some time and was pleased to learn he is still a reader Ye Olde Plaindealer gets around. This is the time of year when people lose one glove getting ^n and out of a car. It wouldn't' be nearly as aggravating to lose the pair. One long time friend and former schoolmate sent a card to one he hadn't seen in several years The wording on the card: Just being friends with you I treasure that, hold it close to my heart and hope you know, at least in part, by everything I say and do how much it means being friends with you. Zoe Rutherford and Bernice Roedeke made many friends during their successful operation of the Snug Harbor Restaurant, then moved to the wilds of Winchester, Wisconsin. A note from the girls was written on a card hand paihted by Zoe. Might add right here that she has sold five oil paintings and has one displayed in a local store which will go to a lucky winner. Here is the note. The picture below shows Zoe feeding "J.J ": Thought you would like to see the "type" of customer we feed in the North woods. Last winter we fed an average of 42 deer a day. Went through 3,200 lbs., of corn and 30 bales of alfalfa, plus one salt lick. We have a few now but they really move in after the first of the year when we have heavy snow cover. Merry Xmas - we love your column, Zoe and Bernice The girls enclosed a copy of the IRON COUNTY MINER, published in Hurley, Wis., with notation: "Moore's Ramblin's reminds us of your column in the Plaindealer." Would like permission to print some of those Ram blin's. Here is one that I printed many moons ago: "It has been said that people with great minds talk about ideas, people with average minds talk about places and things, and people with small minds talk about other people Twas nice of you to write; Pie and Zoe You made my day. Wanted to write a full column about Christmas, but got to thinking all my recollections have been written in previous years. Maybe by next year you will have forgotten and I can give a repeat performance. Come to think of it, Christinas is repetitious. Try as people may, nobody has found words Mo replace Merry Christinas. I like the spirit of the season. People you don't know will smile or speak when you meet them. Parents look forward to families coming home for the holidays and spend a bundle stocking the pantry shelves. Little children are wide- eyed when they sit on San ta's lap and tell him what they want. Some bolder kids tell old whiskers how he forgot some items last year. McCullom Lake Dawn Miller 385-4901 It is a season to be jolly. Wouldn't it be nice if ttiere ere no troubles in the orld. I Let us hone those < with^--- Wouldn' were world. Let us hope those withT illness or those in need will receive God's Blessings in the form of strength to bear their burdens. To those we call our friends and readers, S.I.H. ---and Mrs. S.I.H. send our love with hope for a Happy, Holy MERRY CHRISTMAS/ No Argument There isn't anything that can be sliced so thin that it has only one side. -Independent, Waverly. Ladles End Club Year The ladies held their Christmas party recently at a local tavern restaurant and fried chicken and barbecue ribs were enjoyed by everyone for dinner. The ladies had a cookie exchange and a grab bag exchange. After all that, the 15 ladies present played their favorite games. This party ended another good year for this fine club. There will be no more meetings until March. s: Announcing something n your Saturday. turd ay The premiere FeatureWeekly for McHenry County Serurdev November I t 198 I • 7S Vol I No I . SANTA AND THE MAGIC SHOW On Saturday, Dec. 12, children of the village en joyed a Christmas party held by the Beach Gals at the beach house. The highlight of the party was the magic show performed by Tom Hubbard. Afterward, punch, hot chocolate and cookies were consumed by all. " The children enjoyed some special guests, Santa, Mrs. Claus and an elf. Prizes were given to all the children as they told Santa of their dreams. There are many fine people who make these events happen. JOIN A CLUB Snowmobiling season is soon coming. You know it is illegal to ride on the roads and private property, so why not join a club. There are several clubs in the McHenry area, and there are so many advantages to joining a club such as marked trails, fun meetings, mystery rides, parties for young and old and the en joyment of meeting so many other nice people who enjoy the same sport as you do. If you desire any further in formation on the clubs, please call me and I can put you avouch with someone who can help you. Think Snow! Lane announced. "This is the second time since mid-June that the department has been forced to use this safety mechanism to relieve crowded con ditions at adult correctional centers," Lane said. All of the inmates released were within 28 days of their mandatory release from prison and none had been in prison before, Lane pointed out. As with all previous forced releases, Lane noted, no inmate convicted of murder, Class X or Class I felonies was released early. Lane pointed out that 1,700 beds paces have been added to the state penal system during 1981. Even with this expansion, the 13 adult prisons operated by the state are at capacity of 13,245, he added. • * • • If you get an idea every once in a while, you're not doing badly, • • * • If everyone would quit hurrying, life would move along intelligently.
