Then, Saturday night 1 remarked that I was going to put on my pajamas and robe in the early evening, thinking nobody would come to our door. To our surprise a group of young people came spreading cheer with their songs. Again I say, people are nice. Joan Bauer phoned, after my last column questioned if any group was looking after the clothing needs of less fortunate people. I learned that the FISH organization provides clothing for children and will help adults if possible. A great group i& FISH Results from publicity given by Brenda after her in terview with Joan is gratifying. Food and money keep coming and more is needed. Drivers weaving down the street and changing lanes give me the heeby-jeebees. I'm always afraid they will zig when they are supposed to zag. For us it was the second annual Christmas party at Lucille Geraty's home. "Herself" had nine children of her own and now has a flock of grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was the kind of a crowd you feel honored to join. Great fun. Our next get-together will be St. Patrick's Day. More fun. A reader with a real sense of humor wonders about-- A doctor's prescription "1 pill 2 times a day". And, shouldn't a hot water heater be called a cold water heater? And. can your battery turn your car over? Remembering names isn't one of my talents. I look at some people I am supposed to know but couldn't call their names if I were hung for it. Am still chuckling since receiving a greeting from Ed and Irene Wittrock. A pic ture of the two (two of my favorite people) shows Ed wearing a T-shirt with this wording on the front--"It's Hard To Be Humble Ven You're Norvegian". The sketch is a dilly. Haven't seen any mistletoe hanging around. Maybe I should look up and wait. I'm not a suspicious one, but---. It seems to me the whole scheme in the gasoline shortage was to get the price way up, then suddenly the supply went up. Employment may be down, but traffic seems to be up. Drivers are buying gas. Some people think the gas station operator is getting a percentage of those big sales. 'Tain't so. They get a few cents on the gallon regardless of the price. We were pleased to have Ed and Agnes Thennes join us at our table in Bimbo's. Long time friends have a lot of ground to cover down memory lane. If Christmas time „is a whirly time, the whirl has caught me as far as columns are concerned. The idea seems to be to keep turning in copy and hope you are up to date. Think I wished you a Merry Christmas, but what harm in saying it again. The spirit of the season is in the air. Let us hope it doesn't evaporate too soon. Be happy. Be healthy. Be of good will. Those poinsettias which are so popular during the holidays are poisonous, warns the Humane society of North Central Illinois. Other house plants which are poisonous to animals are caladiums, castor beans, dumbcanes, elephant's ears, lantanas and philodendrons. Hyacinth bulbs, mistletoe berries and rosary pea seeds are also poisonous. "If poisoning is suspected, contact a veterinarian immediately," recommends society director Leslie Smith. If the animal cannot be taken to a veterinarian right away, induce vomiting by feeding a solution of six teaspoons of salt to a glass of water. Or, put a mustard- water mixture or several McHENRY THEATRE 1 & 2 385-0144 teaspoons of salt directly on the back of the animal's tongue. After vomiting has occurred, give it egg whites or milk.
