The Skyhawks were defeated by the host Rockets 33-30, but they came back to defeat Hampshire 40-37. Johnsburg was not at full strength in the meet as star 119 pounder Lars Swanson was ill and didn't compete. His record up until Monday was 9-4. '"JThere's no question that not having Lars really hurt our lineup," said Johnsburg head coach Don March. "But overall I feel that we wrestled well." Junior Mike Hurckes had himself a fine night as he recorded two more victories to bring his record to 13-2 in the 132 class. Joe Kalisek (138), Brett Everett (145), and John Grenman ( H e a v y w e i g h t ) a l s o recorded a pair of wins for Johnsburg. Senior Mike Dalan lost against Richmond, but won easily against his Hampshire opponent to also put his record at 13-2. - Until the Richmond match, Dalan had not lost since his first match of the season. He has also captured first place in both the Richmond Tournament and the WheatomSL Francis Tournament during the last two weekends. Although the Skyhawks placed eighth at Wheaton, tour of their wrestlers finished with a medal. Besides Dalan's first place award, Hurckes, Kalisek, and Everett all finished third in their respective weight classes. ' "That tournament was a real good experience for our kids," said assistant coach Mike Roberts. "We finished only a few points away from being two places higher in the standings. "And this tournament is one of the toughest around," he added. "Last year five kids went to I state that came out of this tournament." Although the Johnsburg wrestling program is only in its second year, many of the athletes are showing signs of maturity and have compiled fine records. Others above the .500 mark include Kalisek, 10-5; Everett, 11-4; and Grenman, 6-4. "We're really proud of our kids," said Roberts. "They're a real hard working bunch and their efforts are beginning to pay off."
