The Mustangs jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter, led 40-22 at in­ termission, and held a 51-32 advantage after three quarters of play. McHenry played its best in the fourth quarter out- scoring Rolling Meadows 20- 15, but the halftime bulge by the Mustangs- was just too much to overcome. The Warriors shot a mere 34 percent from the floor making 18 of 52 shots. The Mustangs shot 44 percent from the floor and had four players in double figures. One bright spot for McHenry was junior Mike Bauml who netted five field goals along with eight free throws for his season high of 18 points. The Warriors were also beaten on the boards as the Mustangs held a 36-14 ad­ vantage in rebounding. The Warriors will be looking for their first win of the season when they play Chicago Christian Monday night at 6:45 p.m. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Reuschel loins 'Rescue 50' With snow in the forecast and a celebrity at hand, the seventh annual "Rescue 50" snowmobile marathon is now in the final planning stages. Famed baseball pitcher Rick Reuschel of the New York Yankees has accepted an invitation to ride in the charitible event which will bring needed funds to the McHenry and Johnsburg rescue squads, announced event co-coordinator Jim Wright. Reuschel, a former Chicago Cub standout, said he will be ready when the call "to start your engines" is made on January 10, 1982 at 9:00 a.m. He will join the kick off with coffee and rolls ate' Raymond's Pier One in Johnsburg for the ride to Spring Grove, Richmond, Hebron, and Wonder Lake. The pledge rider for the last three years, Wright will lead the riders, according to club president Frank Meisner. Last year, snowmobilers raised $8,200 for the two squads and a goal of $10,000 has been set for 1982. Riders from the McHenry Snowballers, The Moose, Snoebirds, Snow-Trackers of Harmony, Hebron Penguins, Wonder Lake Lakers, and the Polar Pairs of Spring Grove are expected to take part.-- -- The ride is open to all snowmobilers and state certified riders under age 16 accompanied by a parent. Registration begins at 8.00 a.m. Riders will be escorted by rescue squad personnel and McHenry County Sheriff's deputies, coordinated by Deputy Joe Eisele. County Snow Patrol Deputies Dennis Leo and Bill Bruce, along with a back-up squad, will pick up any disabled machines. Leaving Johnsburg, the estimated 100 entries will head north to Spring Grove, Richmond, then to Hebron, Wonder Lake and return to Johnsburg for refreshments. This annual fund raiser is supported by donations from Fox Lake Harbor, Yahama, LTD., Raymond s Pier Inn, Chapel Hill Country Club, McHenry State Bank, and many others who will receive citations at the presentation ceremony. Playing without the ser­ vices of Debbie Koerber and Sissy Pinkstaff, both of whom were sidelined with injuries, the Warriors nonetheless stayed within striking distance of host North Chicago only to bow 48-43 in the opening round of the North Chicago Tour­ nament. "We played well enough to win," said McHenry coach Pat Wirtz. "But it was one of those nights where the ball just wouldn't drop." Several times McHenry worked for a good per­ centage shot, but the ball would just roll off of the rim. The Warriors were also victimized by their inep­ titude at the free throw line making just 13 of 27 charity tosses. The Warhawks led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, 29-25 at intermission, and 40- 33 after three quarters of play But in the fourth quarter, McHenry made a run at North Chicago, rallying from a 10-point deficit and cutting the lead to two points with 1:10 remaining in the contest. But then a costly turnover and a free throw iced the game for the host Warhawks. Terri Blume starred in a losing cause for McHenry with a season high 19 points coming on seven field goals and five of six free throws. She also pulled down 10 rebounds. Karen Karpavicius, playing ill, ripped down a game high 13 rebounds before fouling out in the second half. She also con­ tributed six points. Playing for the injured Koerber, Sue Smith scored 11 points in her first starting assignment of the year and kept McHenry in the game with seven of her points coming in the second quarter. The Warhawks were also poor at the free throw line making but six of 16 at- / tempts. Center Adele Jackson paced the winners with 11 points. The Hurricanes went ahead to stay at the 5:35 mark when Liggett scored on a lay up to give her team a 6-4 lead. Marian then scored six straight points for a 12-4 lead as Holly Ryan hit a jumper, Beth Penza scored on a layup, and Weber tallied two free throws. The Hurricanes moved out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and held a 32-18 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Marian put the game away outscoring the Mustangs 14-5 for a commanding 46-23 lead entering the final period. Mundelein's Koehler, a sophomore, led all scorers with 24 points.
