But Niles had other ideas as it handed MCC its seventh straight loss 65-62 marking the second time this season that the Scots were beaten by Niles. ^ The first half of the game was a see-saw battle bet-"~ ween the two teams. The Scots played an over aggressive, physical game in the first half and as a result was slapped with 17 personal fouls. The high number of fouls resulted in the benching of two key Scot starters, center Rick Peterson and forward Jim Johnson. But Dan Conway and Ron D'Angelo picked up the slack with free throws in the closing seconds to propell the Scots to a 41-37 halftime advantage. Peterson began the second half by hitting for two quick baskets, D'Angelo added one, and MCC had built its lead up to 10 points as Niles went scoreless for the first minutes. But Tom Bujnowski then scored on a three-point play and consecutive baskets by Eddie Woodson and Phil Reilly put Niles back into the game. Costly turnovers and sloppy play then led to the Scots downfall. MCC missed several breakaway layups erasing its strong second half start, and NUes even tually caught up and took the lead. With seven minutes to i>lay, the Scots held their last lead of their evening at 56-55, but then again ran into foul trouble sending Niles to the free throw line. ' Niles players than sank three of four charity tosses to capture the victory and secure a third place standing in the tournament. Bujnowski paced the winners with 25 points, while MCC was led by Peterson who took scoring honors with 27 points, Conway with 10, and Rick Wiskirchen with eight points, respectively. Despite the loss, Peterson managed to break two tournament records. He sank 13 free throws in a single game to erase the old mark of 12, and he also at tempted 28 charity tosses Marian Grapplers 3-0 M a r i a n C e n t r a l ' s wrestling team ran its record to 3-0 before the holiday break by easily handling Elgin St. Edward 39-18.
