Those that participated found bass, crappie, northerns, bluegills, and perch all biting. Bob Freund of McHenry had a whale of a day as he recorded the most perch caught (200), the most bluegills caught (39), an also the largest btuegill caught (8ft Inches). Ted Freund reeled in the largest fish, a 24-inch 3V« lb. northern which was Just at the legal size limit. Bill True caught the largest bass (12 inches), and Mark Mussared brought home the biggest crappie (9V* inches). Proceeds from the event went towards lake Management projects by the McCullom Lake Conservation Club such as dredging, weed cutting, and stocking of the lake. Fish were tagged and displayed outside the McCullom Lake beach house for comparison. STAFF PHOTOS - WAYNE GAYLORD Harvard Dominates SHARK Wrestling HARVARD - Harvard's placed 11 wrestlers in the finals and came up with nine individual champions as the Hornets steamrolled through the field in Tuesday's SHARK Conference's first and last wrestling tour nament. The Hornets picked up 187.5 points, easily topping second place Hononegah, which had 151 points. Marian Central took third with 93 points while Johnsburg had 79.5 Hononegah managed two individual titlists while Marian had one. The Hornets' domination was clearly shown as finalists lined up to be in troduced prior to cham pionship bouts. The 11 Harvard contenders stood together, creating a wall of black and gold. The line was broken only by the bright blue, gold and white of Johnsburg finalist Brett Everett. "I'm a tired, but happy man," said Hornet coach Dick Holtfreter after the meet concluded. "I think what made me happiest was when the chips were down our kids wrestled well." Harvard's Shawn Gerard picked up his 19th and 20th victories of the season against only one loss and a tie. Hornet Tim Linhart improved to 19-3 while Steve Somerville boosted his marie to 18-1. Marian Central's Tom Schermerhom earned his 15th and 16th wins of the year against only two losses. Individually, Harvard's Dan Muehl pinned Hononegah's Toby Houston in 2:36 and beat Marian's Mark Wohnrade 11-4 to win at 98 pounds. At 105 pounds, Ken Sorenson bombed H o n o n e g a h ' s L u k e Masterson 12-2 and then beat Marian's Kevin McConville 7-4 to take tne title. Mark Hage, Harvard, tallied pins over Johnsburg's Mike Cahill and H o n o n e g a h ' s B r a n d y Schoonover in his successful title quest at 112 pounds while Marian's Jeff Nusbaum took third. Jeff Putnam pinned Johnsburg's Lars Swanson and beat Hononegah's Jon Schwarz 9- 2 to win at 119. Swanson took third place by winning over Marian's Mike Herff. At 126 pounds, Gerard pinned Marian's Jeff Snow in 1:46 and then beat Hononegah's Greg Rozoa 10- 4 for the championship. Johnsburg's Dave Moravec took third. Schermerhom picked up Marian's only individual title as he beat Johnsburg's Mike Hurkes, a 21 match winner, 4-2 in overtime. Schermerhom then won the 132 pound title by beating Harvard's Tim Soutar 7-2. Hurkes captured third place with a 14-4 decision. Hononegah swept the 138 and 145 pound class. At 138, Chris Pierson pinned Har vard's Ted Davis in 1:34. Earlier, Pierson pinned Marian's Steve Stilling in 39 seconds. At 155 pounds, Harvard's Ken Hartmann scored a pin 1:00 over Johnsburg's Bentley Treat and then edged Marian's Kevin Niedospial 4-2 to win that class. The Hornet's Somerville had a first round bye and won the 167 pound championship with a 4-1 decision over Hononegah's Shawn Kinniard. John sburg's Moe Dreyer was third. In the 185 pound class, Harvard's Tim Linhart dispatched Marian's Tony Piwowarczyk 16-4 and then beat Hononegah's Mike Ainsworth for the title, while Johnsburg's Mike Dalan beat Piwowarczyk for third. At heavyweight, Har vard's David Holtfreter pinned Johnsburg's John Grenman in 58 seconds and then outlasted Hononegah's John Porter 12-7 in a brutal finale. Marian's Rich Kelly won third. Bob Sarabia won at 126 for McHenry's first win and Tom Kucek was the Warriors' only other winner as he won at 185. Rick Connor (112) managed a tie to conclude McHenry's scoring. The Warriors wll resume action on Thursday, Jan. 28 when they host Belvidere. Here are the results against South: (98) Erich Gaza was decisioned 6-2 to Londrie. (105) Steve Carby was decisioned 4-2 by Dusthimer. (112) Rick Connor tied Baruth 6-6 for McHenry's first points. (119) McHenry forfeited at this weight class. (126) Bob Sarabia was the first Warrior winner as he decisioned Epach 8-0. (132) Mike Love was decisioned 19-4 by Loving. (138) McHenry forfeited at this weight class. The occasion will mark only the fourth home appearance for the Warriors this season. McHenry, who lost to Cary Grove in its FVC opener in December 61-51, will be seeking revenge. The Trojans are 3-4 in the con ference and a game ahead of the Warriors (2-5). They have added to their team High Brennan a 6-4 center who has been laid up with football injuries during the past two seasons. Brennan was selected as the out standing football player in the conference the past season and won numerous awards in the Chicago area. The remaining starters include Bob Dehanes, Mike Boos, Chris Carpenter, Bill Haubolld, and Dave Butts, with Bad Ganzo expected to see a lot of playing time also. The Warriors will be trying to rebound from their defeat at FVC leader Crystal Lake South last Friday when they shot a poor 25 percent from the floor. TOMORROW AT JACOBS On Saturday, it will be the Golden Eagles who will be seeking revenge. In December, McHenry won its first conference game here against Jacobs in a 53-52 thriller. The Golden Eagles are 3-3 in the FVC and have an overall record of 10-6. McHenry's overall record is 2-11. NOTE -- In the first two games against Cary and Jacobs, Mike Bauml was the Warriors' leading scorer in both contests with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Dick Rabbitt Johnsburg Visits Hebron Johnsburg high school's basketball team stands a good chance to win two in a row, a feat it hasn't ac- complished yet this season, I when it travels to Hebron Saturday. i The Skyhawks, fresh from n Tuesday night's stunning 52- 51 last second victory over • Harvard, evened their 7 SHARK conference record at 2-2 and moved into a second place tie in the league with Marian Central. In the win over the Hor nets, the Skyhawks got 21 points from Jeff Bartmann, but won the game as Jeff Fowler's top-of-the-key jumper swished through the net as the buzzer sounded. Fowler finished with 12 points and Joe Meyers added 11. The win at home gave Johnsburg a 4-2 record on its own court, but on the road Ben Beck's club has not fared well winning only once in 11 outings. J o h n s b u r g ' s o v e r a l l record is 5-12. But since 1982 began, the Skyhawks have won three of five games. They have scored 971 points (57.1 ave) in their 17 games this season and have given up 1055 points (62.0 ave) in those games Hebron sits at the bottom of the Trailblazer conference with a 0-4 record and has an overall mark of 1-11. The Hurricanes, winners of six of their first seven games this season, have fallen upon hard times lately and stand 7-6 overall. Tuesday night they were defeated 66-58 at Cary Grove in overtime. In the SHARK conference, Marian is tied with John sburg for second place as each team owns a 2-2 record. Harvard dropped to 2-3 in the conference and 7-10 overall with Tuesday night's 52-51 loss at Johnsburg. The Hurricanes won the first meeting with the Hornets 55-43 at Marian last December. In that game Scott Truckenbrod paced the winners with 16 points. Marian has done well at home winning five of its six games, but on the road Hans Rokus' team is 2-5. The Hurricanes have also scored proportionately to their overall record. In 13 games, they have scored 792 points (60.9 ave) and have given up 799 points (61.4 ave).
