With record low temperatures following heavy snowfalls, many of us have found ourselves short on patience. Weather conditions are not likely to improve for the duration of the winter, so please be careful. Look out for the other guy and yield the right of way. Slow down and exercise caution when roads are snow packed and icy, and traffic is tied up or reduced to one lane of travel. When you drive to work after a bad winter storm, increase your travel time so you can reach your destination safely. If traffic is reduced to one lane, and single lines of cars are bumper to bumper, occasionally let a waiting car from a side street or parking space in front of you. If this courtesy is ex tended to you, be sure to acknowledge it. As you approach an in tersection or entrance ramp to an expressway, don't assume that city or state workers have been there with salt or cinders. If you slide into the rear of the vehicle in front of you, you are driving too fast for conditions. If you have any questions about the Secretary of State's office please feel free to use our toll-free telephone number 800-252-8960. (A copy of the Rules of the Road will be sent to you upon request. Write to Jim Edgar, Secretary of State, Springfield, 111. 62756.) • e • * Those who depend not upon others will not be disappointed. INVESTIGATE BREAK-IN City of McHenry police are investigating what is believed to be an attempted burglary at Althoff In dustries, 809 N. Front street, McHenry. According to McHenry Police Chief George R. Pasenelli, a broken service door window was discovered by an officer while on routine T patrol. The chief said the owners were notified and the building was searched thoroughly. Nothing was determined to have been taken. In another matter, McHenry police arrested Roy C. Sullivan, 24, of 903 S. Route 31, McHenry, on a warrant from the McHenry County Sheriff's police. The year this picture was taken has not been determined, but the line of parked can indicates basiness was booming. Traffic had reached the stage in McHenry requiring a post to be placed in the center of the Green and Elm intersection directing drivers to go around the post when making left turns. Note the bench in front of the Jacob J us ten furniture store. Weary walkers could stop for a rest. The ladder was used to light kerosene street lights. The fancy electric light in the center of the Intersection didn't completely replace the kerosene lamp until It was decided electricity was hereto stay. Note the Smith Bros, sign on the east side of the street, where the business remained until Walter Carey built a brick building directly across the street. ft a * M W » A * a * A A M M M M M M M M ANNOUNCING JOHNSBURG-McHENRY CHURCH OF OIRI$T Beginning Sunday, February 7,1982 Place of Worship each Lord's Day James Bush Grade School 2117 W.
